    Trillions of extra economic damages predicted in new study of climate change effects

    The world is underestimating the economic effects of climate change by trillions of dollars. According to a new study current economic forecasting models fail to account for unpredictable variations in global temperatures, rather than the more predictable rising temperatures themselves.

    The United States, for example, relies on a forecasting model developed by Yale economist William Nordhaus, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2018, as well two other forecasting models that descended from Nordhaus' work. These models fail to take into account the unpredictable fluctuations in global temperatures observed year after year.

    The extra damages—anywhere from $10 trillion to $50 trillion over the next 200 years when measured in today's dollars, according to the study—show us that the cost of inaction is substantially higher than previously believed, he says.

    The study was published in Nature Communication.

    Climate change threat to Scotland's seabed, new study warns

    New modelling shows the majority of maerl beds, also known as red coralline beds, which form a spiky "carpet" on the seabed and are an important habitat for smaller marine plants and animals, will disappear if action isn't taken to slow global warming.

    They found that even in the best-case option, where greenhouse gas emissions fell significantly, about 38% of Scotland's maerl beds would still be lost by 2100. In the worst case scenario, about 84% of our maerl beds would disappear by the end of this century.

    The study was published in Frontiers in Marine Science.

    crushed by the waves and bleached by the sun.

    It is certainly true that each type of power generation has its pros and cons. One of the cons of solar and wind generation is intermittent production. Storage of electricity is an area of active research. But it is gratifying that the Benton, Washington Public Utility District is committed to transitioning away from coal-fired plants.

    It is interesting to note that the low risk areas are experiencing an increase above the average that is well in excess of the decrease below the mean for the high risk areas. It looks like, overall, Florida is experiencing a boom.
    I lived in a house on stilts on Fort Myers Beach when I was in third grade. It was fun. I'd be happy to do that again.

    Plus, there is no visible sign of sea level rise other than temporary storm surges(weather, not climate) here in the almost 60 years that I have been frequently coming here.

    If I remember correctly, you live near Tampa Bay.

    RECOMMENDED PROJECTIONS OF SEA LEVEL RISE IN THE TAMPA BAY REGION
    Tampa Bay Climate Science Advisory Panel
    Updated April 2019

    Data measured at the St. Petersburg tide gauge shows that water levels in Tampa Bay have already increased approximately 7.8 inches since 1946.

    Based upon a thorough assessment of scientific data and literature, the Tampa Bay region can expect to see an additional 2 to 8.5 feet of SLR by 2100.

    Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment for the City of Tampa
    Hillsborough County Planning Commision

    In support of compliance with the 2015 Peril of Flood Act (SB 1094)Fla. Statute 163.3178(2)(f)

    Conclusion
    The analysis identified and focused on three areas that maybe impactedby the NOAA 2040 sea level rise projections: Old Tampa Bay near Tampa International Airport, the Tampa Bay area west of MacDill Air Force Base, and McKay Bay and the Tampa Bypass Canal. Properties along the Hillsborough River mayalso see a distributed rise in water level.

    Some of the most notable findings in the analysis are:
    • Projected property impacts through 2040 are primarily limited to open spaces and docks with only two structures identified on the Hillsborough river as being in the vulnerability area.
    • At least 80% of affected properties are publicly owned;
    • Tampa General Hospital and a number of parks are at risk;
    • Critical facilities are not located within at-risk areas;however, the area surrounding the McKay Bay Refuse-To-Energy Facility should be monitored;
    • Segments of 31 local roads are at-risk;
    • Several stormwater basins and some stormwater facilities are within the at-risk areas.

    Davis Island is prime real estate. Of course there are those who want to see prices drop to pick up a bargain.
    Why do AGW proponents keep buying seaside properties?

    Bottom land should be for farming. Flooding nourishes the soil.
