Pic of the original K 25. From Robert Harris' book Racing and Cruising Trimarans.

All the best with the re-build. She'll be a screamer

    Kraken demise

Found this old photograph (about 1978) of Kraken 33 Skipjack's last days - no laughing thanks, it is very easy to hit the reef at night at the entrance of Kawau's South Channel on Motuketekete Island, that place has been a rock bouncer (and graveyard) for many boats.

There is nothing funny about that photograph.
I realise it was a long time ago, but did the crew get off safely, and was the boat repairable?

    Ouch!

Gary, Skipjack has more of a cabin than I remember on Manu Puru before it was modified. Do you recall if any of the NZ krakens were featured in the Kiwi yachting press at the time?

Anyone have a set of K33 plans????

Greg (Jamez) The few Kraken 33's I've seen all had that low and wide cabin - and Krisis, before she was altered, had that same cabin configuration, but larger of course.
Darth, Graeme Minhinnick owned Skipjack and no one was hurt during that rock pileup. Apparently they just touched the reef and then waves slewed the boat around so that it was jammed in that area in the photograph. All the multihull boys (it happened in a night race to Kawau) helped strip the boat of mast, boom, winches, sails so that only the shell remained before it completely broke up.

    Just rembered.
The forerunner to the Kraken 25 was the 20ft "Bunyip".

Our family had a 20ft tri in the 1970's that I was led to believe was a Crowther Bunyip, however from the photos I've seen of a Bunyip I'm now not sure. Here are some photos if anyone can confirm what it is. The blue symbol was on the sail .

    Corley epoxy coated

I've been slack re: updates on the rebuild of the kraken 25 main hull I still a long way to go but I do have the mould frames setup on a strongback and the keelson and stem lamination in place. I thought some people may be interested so here's some pics. I'm just about to receive the marine ply to construct the daggerboard case and transom and the battens to clad the mould ready for the cold moulding.
