My Father was a Canadian citizen at university here in the US, my mother was an Iroquois with Canadian citizenship here with him. So I was born here and they stayed. Not sure I ever had Canadian citizenship and eventually both the folks gave there's up and became US citizens.

And yah, I'm seeing tons of land in the Washington Oregon area as well as in Alaska. 20K will buy a nice chunk with a cabin and maybe even a dorky little house on it. Oregon has pretty good public health care. So who knows, I have a while before I need to make up my mind.

"If we could steal 70,000 of your good people we'd show the world how to run a country bar none --" Viking North

That would be a big bar! Country bar or city tavern, or road house, either one. Understand why it would be a country bar tho. Parking for 70,000 peoples cars needs wide open space!

"how to run a country bar" he said

sometimes other people (MEDIA, POLITICIANS) take things out of context. I have an american right to be just as stupid and obnoxious. (notice the lack of smiley face. It's too sad to be funny!)

yes I caught that, no worries

long story short I've been to Canada a number of times and its a great place, just outside of Calgary is a small town were I have a lot of relatives. Good folks, very laid back, haven't seen them in a long time.

Oh well, Soon as I land a descent contract again I'll start looking again. For now I've just got some little stuff to do and thats about it. Its kinda frightening to only be out a month maybe ahead rather than a year or more.

    Boston,
Forgive me for asking cause it's none of my business, but I haven't seen where you said what your science specialization is. Just that you couldn't make a living in that field. ?

What you say is obvious and correct. what I was trying to say with my outburst, is that Europe and the U.S. can not further compete with a nation of 1,300,000,000 people, of which 1,000,000,000 is still poor and willing to work for $ 20 / month.
They also have the state capital, raw materials, fail to comply with environmental regulations and patents.
Or we isolate them, or in 5 years will be our masters.

China may eventually dominate the world financially. Probably won't happen in 5 years. I don't think they want to rule the world anymore than the US does. Just "influence" situations for advantage, or ameliorate disadvantage. The worlds problems are too great for any person or group to want to own.

I started out in marine biology, but then realized that just about every gas station attendant on the cape where I was attending school had a masters in marine biology. Seemed like if I wanted to eat I'd have to pick a different subject. Then I finally bowed to the pressure and went on a legacy to my Father and Grandfathers old alma mater to study physics and photography, well I sucked at photography and given what school it was struggled to keep up with the physics as well. But I was by some miracle able to maintain a respectable gpa, so then I transferred to CU. CU has three things going for it that a dedicated engineering school doesn't, girls, girls, and girls, I spend a long long time at CU. Majored in astrophysics, which is actually a pretty easy subject because we don't actually know squat about the mechanics of the universe. I eventually realized that I was just wasting time. I had worked my way through all as a glorified carpenter taking on the goofiest projects I could find and at the time it was a great living. I build some really sick and expensive stuff in some really posh places, So I just stuck with that. Turns out now it was a big mistake.

anyway my life's story in a nut shell, sounds like you did pretty well for yourself tho, captain Yobar :)

It will be a very very long time before China dominates the world. This China domination stuff is peddled by scaremonger's in the military industrial complex seeking to extort ever greater sums for weapons .

China will be a competitor . Competion is good, every country needs to become more comptetive.

I wasn't what you'd call a "good" student in high school. I was a big kid so got drafted into sports, also drumed in marching and concert bands. Involved in sea scouts, church 3 times a week plus youth programs. Art lessons at a studio because my school curriculum was loaded with every math class. No study halls for me. Plus I worked after school and played drums with a jazz combo fridays and sat nights. And had a girlfriend. I didn't do homework assignments (rebel) but Ace'd tests and graduated middle of my class.
Won small scholarship by competitive examination which forced my acceptance in college even tho my grades were sub standard.

Stayed 2 quarters, quit, enlisted, went to war.
After military went to sea. Slowly worked my way up the ladder. I Took math and other interesting classes at various small colleges whenever I could. Eventually (10 years) it was pointed out to me, i had enough credits for a degree if I took some required classes in english composition and social studies. So. Got a Bach of Science in math.
A BS degree is highly appropriate in my case, don't you think?

In Europe there are no lobbying arms.
    But ...
I am a graduate in economics from Bocconi University, the best Italian economy: 8 out of 100 graduates of the best business schools are Chinese children.

These will be to supervise high-tech companies that the Chinese are buying.

The competition, dear friend, is healthy if done in the same ASA. A man can not run against a horse, and our companies can not compete against companies who pays engineers $ 38/month.

Bad money drives out good, you konw?

But I hope to be in a mistake.

Unless wiring a few lobster boats 35 years or so ago qualifies me I think I'm out of luck. I've wired countless houses and the building dep never complained but not boats. So I'd have to say its a no go.

Wrong direction anyway. I was thinking of the Oregon Washington Alaska area.
