speaking of which I just lost a contract that would have paid for materials on that boat. Aarrgg, what a pain in the ***. Oh well I'm still working for that guy but now without a contract, I think his plan is to try and pressure me into lowering my price, not happening. I've got other stuff I can do anyway, if I'm going to work for less I'm at least going to be doing something easier than I was.

slicing windows in half the long way and replacing the inside half with a half a brand new custom window while keeping the outside exactly as it was, every twist, crack, warp, bend and racked shape of it, and ending up with a flawlessly operational window is a whopping pain in the ***. Did I mention do the same to the frames but in place, cause the brick house is built around them in such a way as to risk collapse if you removed them. That and the jobs about a 100 mile drive round trip. Did I mention steam bending new exterior sill caps to match the warped and deformed shape of the old sills.

I quess all I can really say is best of luck buddy, no one else does that kinda restoration work and I'm preaproved on the permits, been doing it for so long in that area they don't really mess with me any more. The historical permit is in my name and so if he has someone else do the work he's got to reapply for the permit.

Oh well but it does set me back a bit on my plans cause he'd been saying he wanted to do the whole house.

guys an oddball for sure, he had me to the first one about six times and then complained that it cost so much. As if I wasn't billing him every two weeks and he couldn't see exactly what it was costing him the whole way. Imagine a customer who approved a design only to change it, again and again, spending untold amounts of money with a smile and then saying, fantastic job, exactly what I want, why did that cost so much?

Crazy, we went over that initial design ten times till he signed off on it.

    OK now I'm just complaining
    my bad

cheers I'm off to the shop
gotta finish the antique replica storms on the windows I did do.

Tampa is at 63 degrees Fahrenheit as I make this post. It is forecast to be 70 degrees tomorrow. 20 more degrees and we'll be there.

    Hi Hoy!
Titanic was the end of belle epoque.
Concordia will be the end of Europe and Usa leader in the world.

    Problem is just one: China.
We cannot compete with a comunist industry: or chine go home, or europe and USA are ...6 feet under?

Actually, the Soviets, North Korea and Cuba have proven rather conclusively that communist industry can't compete with capitalism....

What the Chinese have is a weird hybrid of economic capitalism combined with the remnants of a Marxist government.

I remember the hysteria in the 80's, when the Japanese were the economic Yellow Peril threatening the US; how has that worked out for them?

Not well, I'd say. Their economy has been basically stagnant for years now.

And I really don't see how the Concordia affects the US or European position in the world...

Boston- when I first moved here i had 12 men working installing the new fandangled vinyl windows and doors as well as renovations.( I am a licenced journey man carpenter) I got to the point where I never atually bid on a job per say --I presented a bid and told the customer i will not be the lowest bid but i guarantee my work and you will get a good job-call me if thats what you want, gave them the number of the customer jobsite i was working at and a good time to call ( when the customer was most likely to be home) Of course they are going to talk about my work and my present customer always sold the job for me even at the higher price. They all got good work and i got good pay.---

Hoyt is that a tongue in cheek comment (no little faces for that) because i'm trying to steal one of your citizens for our great country :). If we could steal 70,000 of your good people we'd show the world how to run a country, bar none -- :D

Boston has shown some of his work here, both large and small pieces and they are excellent as far as I can tell. I just have to say it. I respect his talent in that regard.

Just don't let him run your country. You will be back in the stone age. Imagine a smilie here with a really serious but not angry look.

You can have Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed too but sleep with one eye open if you take them.

I was born in Boston but at the time both my parents were Canadian citizens. Not sure how that works. I'm also just about done getting my Iroquois citizenship. Which should make it easier for my claim of Canadian citizenship. Either way I could still settle in Canada, as a Iroquois if I wanted to go that rout. I've got gobs of relatives in Saskatchewan, maybe one of them might sponsor me or whatever.

For now I'm just focused on finding one fat job i can buy my materials off of and then its off to the races. I want out of contracting as fast as I can.

Either way I'm after cheap land by the water. Or access to ocean is also good. I'll dig in a boat house fast as I can and build a nice little loft over the water. Hopefully using the hookups that came with the existing beater. I'm Ok with a scrape off. Just another build as far as I'm concerned.

Viking I've met quite a few transplanted Americans who left their foreclosed homes and fled the US for jobs here, then they come here and have the balls to whine about how things are done and how it would be so much better if we did it the American way.
    Don't like it...go home,is what I say.

B if you're looking at cheap land by the water, best try Washington state or Oregon due to foreclosures, etc. Friend was looking a month or 2 ago & said there was thousands advertised.
Anywhere in BC prices for such lots haven't dropped the last 3 years..zero foreclosures, the only cheap-ish waterfront land is wayyyy out of the way.

What does it mean "but at the time both my parents were Canadian citizens" were they Americans but living in Canada...and went back to the US to dump ya out? Did they have dual or just permamnent resident cards?
