The M 40 is looking great, it has been quite a fun trip and very informational for me.
I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have.

I finally will get to start my own quest this spring as the Cat is painted and ready to be assembled this winter for the spring winds.

    1.2m vs mini40?

Ian, what do you know about the proposals for a 1.2m rule to replace the mini40 rule?
    New help? Wow!

I am not aware of any discussions for a 1.2m class. Why would we need a new class 2cm shorter than the Mini40?

The new help is my wife.

Using Google translate I think they are just organizing an event with a class that loosely fits the Mini40 rules but they will not measure anything. So if the boat "almost" fits the Mini40 rules then that will be good enough They just want as many boats sailing as possible. That's my interpretation anyway. Could be wrong . . . .

    1.2m vs mini40?

That makes sense-I guess- but I imagine it's a bit confusing to some people.

F3-the Worlds First Production RC Sailing Foiler--San Diego 2015

I've told you about the F3* and showed pictures and video(see next post) but now a remarkable thing has happened. The first and only kit of the F3 that I sold to a great guy-Rich Matt-has surfaced at the model pond in San Diego. Rich lived near Chicago. The kit was difficult because the instructions hadn't been written but Rich knew that and worked with me during the build. He did a spectacular job and the boat worked well. The boat is 56" Long(+ rudder), 72" wide and weighs about 7 lb.
Hopefully, the new owner will get her flying shortly and we'll have the first new F3 video in 10 years!
*designed by me in 1999/2000 and built by me in the early 2000's. I built all the kit components for Rich including the "WingTip" rig with adjustable upper outhaul. He assembled and painted the boat.
After Rich died a few years ago I heard nothing of the boat until a photog** posted these pictures on RC groups yesterday: (Click on the small ones)

    F3 video(old)

One of two existing videos of the first F3-only a few seconds in very light air. The longer video can't be found so far. Hopefully, we'll get new video of Electric Lobster before too long.

    2M trimaran

    See this link

I was lucky enough to sail Mike Dann's 2Metre trimaran yesterday down at Gosport - fantastic experience! It is actually easier to sail than a Mini40 as it is double the weight. But the loads and the sheer size of the beast are awe-inspiring. No standard fittings on this boat!

And no - the boat did not capsize!

    Merry Christmas!

    RC Foiler

Very interesting-thanks ,Ian. I bet it would do better a bit wider with a wand controlled foil on the main hull where a daggerboard would normally be. Would allow it to fly earlier and longer because the foil would automatically develop downforce when required. Simple mod-more or less.
Done right , there would only be three foils in the water...

Another advantage of a mainfoil designed to produce downforce on a trimaran designed to heel:

    Merry Christmas! / Seasons Greetings!

Hope everybody has a great holiday! Hope to be carbonating the new "Dominion 2-HW" next week. I usually take off between Christmas and New Years but I hope I'll get some work done on the boat. There is a remote chance that Dan and I might be able to get some Fire Arrow video........
