Go 'round in a Freedom 40?

    Yes and no. Yes, if the attachment is done poorly and weakens the mast with holes that are not properly reinforced. No, generally, on loading. The Freedom masts were all designed to the righting moment of the boat, not necessarily the sailplan. The load indicator is the amount of heel. When the boat heels over a lot, the masts are highly loaded--but even at that state there is a generous safety factor in play. In the photos, the boat is heeling normally so the masts are loaded more or less normally. Yes, there is marginally more load on the main (forward) mast, but not overly so compared to the ultimate strength of the masts.
