The buzz is that a start is likely in the next 24 hours as Francois Gabart attempts to better the solo Trans Atlantic Record New York to the Lizard on the Ultime trimaran Macif. The ratified record to better which was set by Francis Joyon on the Nigel Irens designed IDEC is 5 days 2hours 56 mins 10 seconds.

The record for the 24 hour distance solo record has been raised again with Francois achieving 778nm in one 24 hour period with an average speed of 32.4 knots.

Thats great! Seems like he is pretty far south-he must be counting on something we can't see on the tracking map?

This blog said he made it....

While most of us in the United States were enjoying a long July 4th weekend, out on the water there was a new record being set. French sailor François Gabart aboard his huge trimaran Macif set a new single-handed 24-hour record covering a whopping 785 miles between July 2 and July 3. Let me save you from having to do the math and tell you that’s an average speed of 32.7 knots. C’est incroyable as one would say to a frenchman.

He bettered the 24 hour record but not the Trans Atlantic solo record. They took on crew in Horta in the Azores and sailed back to Port la Foret.
