    Something more moderate, say 500 pounds of ice to provide for fewer generator hours and a quiet night makes sense to me.


    And here we are again detracting from the original question, not really helping the whole situation, and offering closed comments based on personal (not the original posters) preference. I post these questions based on an idea I have, and kind of thinking aloud and to discuss with like minded people my idea, in the hope we will uncover ways of doing things that weren't yet thought of by myself, and dodge hidden dangers in what I'm trying to achieve.
    500 pounds of ice only gets me halfway through a trip, no generator at the moment (and not wanting one) and quiet nights and days is where I want to be.

    No offence jonr, but our perspectives are a long ways apart here.

    1 thing I have come across is a small danfoss "coolmatic CU95" compressor/condenser unit , I didn't get the evap, but I might find myself playing around a bit with it. Its a 12v unit thats supposed to be good for 200l deep freeze.
