efficient 10m displacement powercat (build thread)

    chamfer panels are infused and im glassing them to the hull shoes now... theyre being held in place with props and straps as the panel has a twist from 45degrees at the transom to vertical at the stem... note the recessed edges for the tape joins...reckon ill have much fairing to do? :)

    ill add the front sections next, with a slightly different laminate to allow an easier twist upto the stem as i think it might be a bit difficult to torture them up there.

    Gooday 'groupie' Oooops X-X-X groper - ho ho - Geeeeze - you're making such great progress - - BIG TIME - I'm impressed. Very well done. I'm sure everyone is - standing right behind you - with feeling of - Gawd-speed - & great success - I sure am wishing you grand achievements.

    Having done some sums in regards to the cost of motorized travel - which as a sailing yachtie person - I'd never done before - not at least for the whole of a long passage I was gob-smacked - that it would cost so much to do a long trip - like something in the way of $600 plus for fuel - being very frugal indeed - from Brisbane to Cairns. No big-deal - but it did surprise me greatly. That really sat me on my butt - as I've sailed the route several times - but in a yacht & spent less that $100 bucks & done the whole trip in 3 days & we were just doing it easy-as. Gosh - I've done Bris to Darwin - inside 10 days & still not spent $100 bucks in fuel & under $300 in grand total & that was for 4 people - but I'm a good fisher-person - rice, spuds & yams are cheap - it's the 'sundowners' that cost ! ! !

    Keep it light - - make every gram & kilo count - as all those kilos cost many dollars to shift around when the boat is finally in the water & ready to be enjoyed.

    Less is best - seems to come to mind - sure you know all about that. I'll try to drop down this next week - if I can find you - which by all the pics - shouldn't be all that hard. I've got some Dr.s to see in town - this week & need 6 new tires - so Ive already started crying.

    yes, motorized travel is expensive... unfortunately its kinda hard to go game fishing via sail power so i had to come up with this idea... this way it wont cost me $800 per day in fuel like a traditional game boat, more like $100 per day which i can certainly live with... especially shared between a few friends :D

    as to weight, im still on track to have it splashed under 1500kgs... the current weight as it sits right now is just on 400kgs.

    Not sure I quite follow what you are doing, but that will probably be clarified as time goes on. I'm looking forward to seeing it take shape, you obviously are not a greenhorn at this caper !

    sorry mate, the pic is looking down the inside of the hull from just in front of the transom, inside the tunnel. The chamfer panel, goes between the hull shoe and the bridgedeck. The angle allows a bit more room inside the hull, but it continually twists more vertical as you go forward and eventually forms the inside hull skin of the bow.

    It's looking awesome, u should be really proud of how its all coming together. I really like the way your building it, unconventional but its definitely working for you! Really keen to see how the hull turns out!

    The outer hull sides will be one of the last panels to go on not far from when the boat is ready to be launched, this way i have easy access, light and ventilation whilst i do all the internal work. So youll have to wait quite some for that... but the new infusion table is looking great and is producing very fair panels :)

    got the front chamfer section of the left hull fitted up and taping in now...

    i was a little worried about how the bows were looking, but now the panel is in place, i feel alot better as the curve and twisted shape of it is quite pleasing to the eye. Was a bit of a hassle to get the twist into a 15mm cored panel with a 1000gsm laminate on it, but we finally got there...
    I forgot to allow for the curveture when i made the panel, so it didnt fit perfect, but close enough to still be well within the tape join recesses i allowed for...

    everything seems to be going like clockwork at the moment... checked the fitment of 1 half of the bridgedeck, then put it back down and decided to high build paint it and sand it before i flip it over and lift it back up to tab it into place - less overhead sanding and painting etc later on...

    sorry about the quality, didnt finish till late today and its a bit dark...

    For those that might be wondering, the yellow colour is the from the M80 corecell foam core. The green colour is the airex C70.75 showing thru the glass.
    The next shipment of foam has just arrived from Diab this time, so the foam is gonna be different colours again... multi color boat at this point...

    1st half of the bridgedeck sanded, and just about ready for a topcoat... will lift it up into position this weekend and tape it in...

    next half of the bridge deck mid infusion... Hope fully get it lifted into position tomorro before the weekend is up...

    6m long, 1.3m width, 1500gsm bottom 1150gsm top, 22kgs epoxy gone and 48kgs finshed weight...

    Looks cool, coupla questions, does the fishbone pattern make a big difference in wet out times to the panel edge? What core thickness are you using in the underwing panels? Does the infusion resin supply manifold tubes indent the laminate much or at all? Just curios. Regards from Jeff.
