Deck Hatches

Hey all, new here and very possibly posting in the wrong spot. I've posted on a few other forums with little to no luck. Commercial fishermen/women, boat builders. What's your preferred hatch cover? I'm currently on a waitlist for 50'x32' build and would need upwards of 14 access ways to under my deck. Fish run and 6 live-wells would be my bigger hatches. Which, would run sizes roughly 3'x3' 4'x5'. Due to my tonnage I would need Transport Canada approved hatches (Canadian registered boat) and I'm seriously giving these people: www.marinehatchcovers.com a go. Anyone have any experience with them?

Bomar also make heavy duty commercial hatch covers - although these ones all seem to be a fair bit smaller than the sizes you are looking for.

Greatly appreciate the quick reply! Unfortunately after a little bit of research those hatches don't meet the TC's regulation as a "approved" hatch. Also size is an issue as well.

Welcome to the forum..
I prefer a raised hatch lid covering a raised opening. I do not like deck flush hatch lids which depend on o-ring seals, which invariably end up leaking.

All my deck hatches use gutters. Not sure if this is an option, but perhaps tc has an option for gutters. Not like a livewell can't rain into itself if drains are left open.

Thanks for the reply. I'm noticing there's not a lot of cast metal hatches on the boats we typically use. Rather that be the companies mentioned or Canadian company anchor. We require some well above "average" hatch covers.

Thanks for the welcome! We generally need flush mounted hatches for our boats. My primary fisheries would be lobster and crab fishing during the winter and spring. Also I would make a few trips Halibut fishing as well. Late spring and into late fall I fish for tuna and sword fish. I don't see a lot of time on land haha. I've attached a picture of a local vessel. Just to give an idea of the hulls we use.

I can see why you would need a flush hatch for that vessel. I just find them more troublesome than useful for my purposes.
