We are good unless you suddenly switch baits again.

Alright fellows, we have exhausted ourselves trying to talk sense to someone who is not interested in wise council. I suggest that we all abandon this thread for good. I'm outta here.

This has little to do with boats compared to how much it has to do with

psychology. The guy/girl is a nut bar and will likely come to his or her

senses before this trip ever happens. All we can do is answer the questions

    and let the individual evolve.

Wise council? What council. All what you have told Stoned, don't do it.
Put yourself now in his position. You are faced to be 80 days on the harsh sea, in cold and wet and seasick situation.
What would you do BEFOREHAND to prepare yourself.

And this is what you should list for Stoned.

You have to be like my mother (she got 90). When she did not like the girlfriend I brought home, she laid the red carpet out for her. Needles to say how quickly the girlfriend was dumped. You have to do the same here. He should start with not talking or answering his cellphone for 4 weeks. Not one word to anybody. If he survive, we have hope.

I once camped in the outback of australia alone for over 6 weeks.

I can handle isolation. Cold, heat, seasickness etc etc.

Someone has to break this record.

It might as well be me.

No, it wont be fun and will probably kill me. But thats what breaking records is all about :p

go spend a week in a dingy anchored about a mile out and see how much you really want to do this

as kids we used to sail everywhere and more than a few times we barely made it back
was kinda a miracle any of us survived actually

we knew the area like the back of our hands and knew all the weather nuances to boot
    made no difference
if the sea wants you its got you

best of luck and if you need my full name for the will just let me know cause I am working on a build of my own and could really use the additional funding

    cheers
    B

    PS
take some advice and do some sailing first
at least learn how to navigate without a GPS
maybe think of taking basic seamanship as well
the whole rebel mariner thing only works to a point

Why build your own boat when you are so scared of the sea and death?

ah but your premise is incorrect
    death Im ok with
made my peace long ago and Im ready anytime
if you knew me you would never have suggested it

    why build my own boat
    building is what I do
    its what Ive always done
    its half the fun
building my own and then niggling with it forever

    scared of the sea
anyone who has been out there in truly ugly conditions would be lying if the suggested they were not scared of it
respect is more like it most of the time though
    luck favors the prepared
not knowing what your preparing for makes it kinda hard

    oh hey
Im not entirely kidding on this one
can I have some of your stuff if you go

I've been two years planing just the build and probably another before I even start bolting boards together, that and I grew up on the water repairing old boats. I still desperately needed the advice of these guys in order to build the right boat for what I want to do with it

    ok ok.

    I'll get some more experience.

Will build a small trailer sailer stitch and glue, sail the balls off it, come up with my design on the water then sell the boat and head off.

    Circumnavigation is hard :p

Anyone heard of the bolger micro?

Damn right...this is the best thread in months! I hope every old salt and old briny ******* on the internet drops by to either nail a coin on Stoned Pirates mast or hammer a nail in his coffin or just make coffee talk..it don't matter..it's all good...". I can hear some of them now....

"Farewell and adieu to me dear Spanish ladies...Farewell and adieu my Ladies of Spain...." lol....;)

In all seriousness Pirate..if I were to cross an ocean in a 10-footer..I'd rather do the Indian Ocean or Atlantic in Summer east to west...maybe like Spain via Canaries or Cape Verde to Puert Rico or the Virgin islands...that way...at least you are fairly warm despite probably being wet alot of the time...
