so how about a 200' power tri with a little pebblebed nuclear reactor, maybe powering MHD or steamjet drives? now that thing would fly....;-)

w00t! It certainly would, but think about the logistical issues: "Yeah, my boat's nuclear powered. Oh look! My Geiger counter's going off..." *FABOOM!* "Three Mile Island on the water!"

and given that North Korea, Iran, the USA and others are now developing new illegal nuclear weapons, and are all scared of terrorists, one might have a problem when it comes time to fuel up: "So, yeah, fill 'er up with twenty kilos of uranium-235, as oxide please; no, fuel-grade not laboratory,......"
Maybe I'll stick with my fuel cells ;-)

Nothing wrong with being a nerd. We end up ruling the world....from the back rooms of the White House/Kremlin/10 Downing etc.

how do you think we ended up with the little slabs of circuitry we're using to type all this? ;-) yeah nerds!......

Back to the trimaran thing though.... I was looking at some of those earlier pictures- perhaps one could cover the topsides with solar arrays, fill the struts and amas up with fuel tanks, stick a solid-oxide fuel cell under the aft deck- renewable energy powercruiser

How about somehow creating an efficient way to draw hydrogen out of water?

Sure, you can extract hydrogen from water, but those pesky laws of thermodynamics make sure that you will put in more energy than you get out.

No Problem , its called FUSION power , and the fuel is even found in the sea for FREE!

Unfortunatly the Govs of the world are more interested in buying votes with massive welfare schemes , Ponzi retirement schemes , free medicine for the vast middle class and payments for millionaire "farmers" than research.

Researchers dont vote in the volume that welfare recipients do,

Fred, there is in fact a fair bit of research being done on fusion power, but so far we only have one reactor thats been successful.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology is alive and well. It seems to me I read of saw something about Iceland being selected for trials. This is to include the necessary delivery systems. I 'm still waiting for a new set of Solar Sails and something a little more efficient than those silver zinc battery pack storage systems. Panels in the sails Matt. Thats what you'll need.

    artemis Steamboater

How about something with a BWL:LWL ratio of 1:5; tunnel stern; wave piercing bow; 20 mph @ 25 SHP, 2000 rpm with 4 adults aboard; monohull -- and the most important part, TRAILERABLE. That's an "everymans" boat - and make it "sexy" according to Sean's definition (I'm with you Sean). :D

SHP=Steam Horsepower? Steamboating, what's that like? Quiet, I imagine.
