    Re pot and health risks

In the UK when I was living there (5 years ago)and skunk was taking over, a teenager with a bad habit would fry their brain before they were 20.
In the old days it took 40 years of pot smoking to get to the same level of paranoia.
Single biggest group to be admitted to mental asylums in the UK, is under 20 yr olds that had been smoking skunk..its very dangerous

Yah sure...nothing good about smoking dope. Toasts your brain. Note much good comes from alcohol either.

Some conspiratorial ideas implied that it was to inhibit the use of "home brew petrol substitute" so big oil could extract more money for imported oils? , others seemed to want to stop people drinking the stuff? end result illicit suppliers of booze and criminal activities boomed... Prohibition DOES NOT WORK... Nor do embargoes and other - 'legal' banning of consumption/use - it is in human nature to try something if others say it is "not permitted"... So, does all this silliness just serve to demonstrate the stupidity of humans?

Nope. It was over-zealous, well, zealots who pushed politicians into this. I come from a line of moonshiners and bootleggers who were hounded by revenuers in the hills of eastern Kentucky. It morphed into an assault on those who produced and marketed a highly desirable product without giving Uncle Sam his cut.

U.S. Groups Helped Nurture Arab Uprisings

WASHINGTON — Even as the United States poured billions of dollars into foreign military programs and anti-terrorism campaigns, a small core of American government-financed organizations were promoting democracy in authoritarian Arab states.

The money spent on these programs was minute compared with efforts led by the Pentagon. But as American officials and others look back at the uprisings of the Arab Spring, they are seeing that the United States’ democracy-building campaigns played a bigger role in fomenting protests than was previously known, with key leaders of the movements having been trained by the Americans in campaigning, organizing through new media tools and monitoring elections.

Why are New England and other fisheries under attack from NOAA?
Is it some kind of conspiracy to promote sales by China to our detriment?

    http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/f186/stellwagen-fisherman-under-attack-1641609.html

It seems every form of commerce in this country works in a hostile environment, from the edge of the tree line to the depths of the fishing grounds.

Is it because the tree-spiking anti-capitalists have infiltrated every branch of our governing agencies?

Have we all become serfs without even realizing it?

It is not just lumber and fish. Pick any industry and you will find the Hand of Big Brother pulling off the wings so it can't soar.

That wasn't a big business decision; it was a misplaced moral decision -- the same sort of politicians who today are scared to look soft on drugs were scared to look soft on alcohol abuse back then.

But you also have to remember that drunkenness was (and is) a serious problem, both publicly and privately. And there were (and are) plenty of simpleminded people who think the way to cure a problem is to pass another law.

Unfortunately, you can't make bad behavior go away with blanket bans and prohibition, no matter how well-meaning they are. You aren't going to get rid of drunk drivers and wife beaters by outlawing booze, anymore than you're going to get rid of drive-by shootings and muggings by outlawing guns.

However: before we get too snotty, let's remember that this is also the same country that repealed Prohibition, when it didn't work.:)

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of conspiracy theories that seem to be
unfairly levelled at the USA and the CIA. If only 1% of these were true
    it would be disturbing.

Australia 1973-75 - CIA interferes and manipulates free election process.

Chile 1973 - CIA backed coup ousts elected president, installs
military Gen. Pinochet. Decades of human rights abuses follow.

Portugal 1974 - CIA funnels millions to destabilize and sabotage NATO ally.

Angola 1976-92 - CIA assists South Africa-backed rebels.

Afghanistan 1979-82 - US supports, arms, trains Mujahadeen rebels
including rebel leader Osama Bin Laden.

El Salvador 1980-92 - US aids government condemned for gross human
    rights violations.

Nicaragua 1981-92 - US directs and illegally supports contra war, mines harbor.
Allows open flow of narcotics into US. US actions condemned by the United
    Nations World Court.

Chad 1982 - US supports overthrow of government. CIA supported secret
police kill and torture tens of thousands.

Honduras 1982 -90 - US builds bases near borders, supports government
that uses Death Squads against its citizens.

Lebanon 1982-84 - US bombs and shells Muslim positions, expels PLO
    from territory.

Grenada 1983-84 - US military invades tiny island. 400 Grenadians
killed. "Gross violation" of international law condemned by United Nations.

Iraq 1987-88 - US supports and arms Saddam Hussein's Iraq in war against Iran.

Iran 1988 - US shoots down Iranian passenger airliner, killing 290
civilians. Claims it was an "accident".

Philippines 1989 - US supports corrupt govt of Ferdinand Marcos against citizen uprising.

Panama 1989 - US invades with 27,000 soldiers. Kills 3000+ Panamanians, kidnaps its own
installed drug-dealing leader and CIA asset.

Bulgaria 1991 - CIA funnels millions to destabilize one of the first
    freely elected governments.

Somalia 1992-94 - US sends in humanitarian aid. Becomes involved in
Civil war, takes sides ttacking one Mogadishu faction. Kills 500+ Somalis.

Peru 1992 - 01 - US provides military support, millions of dollars to
corrupt Fujimori government. Drug kingpin Vladimir Montesino on CIA payroll while
serving as Intelligence Chief. Involved directly in shooting down missionary aircraft, killing
American woman and her infant child.

Sudan 1998 - US bombs Aspirin Factory in Khartoum killing civilians.

Yugoslavia 1999 - US laser-guided bombs destroy Chinese Embassy in
    Belgrade killing three Chinese journalists.

There are a whole lot of conspiracies to do with US involvement in foreign assassinations,
or attempts, even after they were prohibited by Presidential decree in 1976.

1960 - General Abdul Karim Kassem, leader of Iraq
1961 - Francois Duvalier, leader of Haiti
1961 - Patrice Lumumba, Prime Minister of the Congo
1961 - General Rafael Trujillo, leader of Dominican Republic
1963 - Ngo Dinh Diem, President of South Vietnam
1960s - Fidel Castro, President of Cuba , numerous attempts
1960s - Raul Castro, brother of Fidel.
1965 - Francisco Caamano, Opposition leader, Dominican Republic
1965-6 - Charles de Gaulle, President of France
1967 - Ernesto Che Guevara, Cuban leader

1980-86 - Moammar Qaddafi, leader of Libya, numerous attempts
1982 - Ayatollah Khomeine, leader of Iran

1983 - Miguel d'Escoto, Foreign Minister of Nicaragua
1984 - All nine leaders of the Nicaraguan National Directorate
1985 - Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, Lebanon Shiite leader
1991 - Saddam Hussein, leader of Iraq
1998 - Osama bin Laden, former US trained "freedom fighter".

    Another interesting tidbit....

    The Red Button Problem

    By Catherine Austin Fitts

In the summer of 2000, I asked a group of 100 people at a conference of spiritually committed people who would push a red button if it would immediately stop all narcotics trafficking in their neighborhood, city, state and country. Out of 100 people, 99 said they would not push such red button. When surveyed, they said they did not want their mutual funds to go down if the U.S. financial system suddenly stopped attracting an estimated $500 billion-$1 trillion a year in global money laundering. They did not want their government checks jeopardized or their taxes raised because of resulting problems financing the federal government deficit.

Our financial profiteering and complicity is not limited to aristocrats and the elites who do their bidding. Our financial dependency on unsustainable economics is broad, ingrained and deep.
