Not a lot of "objectionable" in this one.
I'd be interested in any Kiwi feedback.
i.e. local knowledge insight.

From my point of view, logs in the water here would be a huge hindrance.

Hydrofoil ferries have been around for many decades. For example there was one in operation in 1962 between Uruguay and Argentina with a speed of 36 knots. In Brazil they had one between Rio and Niteroi. I was onboard that one when it hit a log. Passengers flew of the seats and landed on the deck. I was lucky to have my back to the bow. They are faster and more stable than traditional boats within their operating limits. However, they don't advertise what happens when they hit even a small obstruction.
