Are there any documents online detailing the marine build standards? I'm specifically looking for standards and practices defined by the coast guard for marine fuel systems. I'm assuming there's a document somewhere stating that one should use a marine alternator for example, (or maybe that's just extremely common sense).

    Boatbuilders handbook

    The main page is:

    http://www.uscgboating.org/index.aspx

Pick the regulations tab on top, then boatbuilders handbook. You can pick download from the left side or just read it on screen.

Unlike the actual laws, this is written in more plain English. It even gives examples of calculations.

If you would rather, call 202-267-0984, that's the Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety, and they will send it to you on a CD.
