catamarans for short sea shipping

    Can anyone tell me if catamarans can be used for short sea shipping carrying loads of approx. 120-125 40' containers?

    It could be built, but it probably would make any sense for a general purpose cargo carrier.

    Catamarans are very weight restrictive, so to carry that weight it would have to be extremely large. Which would equate to very high design costs, and large construction costs. If there is a specific reason that a catamaran is desirable over a mono then you would have to look into that, and if it was justified then sure. Say a very high speed craft, where operational cost was less important than delivery time.
