Good to see I am not the only one trying to keep one going!

    Mine is from 73.
    Ex Hylas (K444)
    Ex Samantha (H444)
Has been raced extensively by the previous owner, now retired as family cruiser.
Never seen another one sailing. Surely no others in the Netherlands.

How many of these were made?

    Regards,
    Guido

    Hello Guido !
Welcome to MILES ! She looks beautiful. I've always think that hull white painted is not optimum for our curves lines. If you feel too alone in the North sea, contact Bob and TIGO on this forum, sailing last week-end froim UK to Ostend. You'll welcome in south Brittany wherever you want.
    My 37' was built in 1973, Olympic Yachts, n°13 (ex-OBSESSION, ex-ELDORADO)
Nearly the same photos like yours.
    Kind Regards
    Phil.

    Hi Guido,
Your boat looks great, I think that she raced successfully from West Mersea Yacht Club (near us) when named Hylas. I met a Dutchman when cruising the north coast of Spain back in 2000. He used to own Hylas, his name was Fred ? & was sailing an X Yacht called Samantha.

We've owned Tigo IV since 1995, had lots of fun cruising & racing her from the River Blackwater on the east coast UK. Have you ever heard of anyone changing the rudder configuration on a 37 from skeg mounted to a balanced rudder without a skeg? It's something that I toy with doing, especially after sailing on a windy day. (Mmm, maybe a bit of time in the gym is a better idea!)

    Regards,
    Bob.

I have not heard about change of rudder configuration. It would require a lot of surgery on the hull to fit a balanced rudder. I have a blog at www.tantonyachtdesign.blogspot.com
with some information about the Carter era.

I could not find the make of the boat, but someone clued me in, and I found this thread.
I could not dig deeper into the boat at the time as it was full of yellow jackets.

    It's got a propeller! Haaa.
I have not been able to enter the boat yet. I will tomorrow. The ones I have seen on line seem to have different drive configurations, as this one seems to be a V drive as the prop shaft exits the back side of the keel.

Good God, are those epoxy runs down the side of the hull? If so, it looks like a whale vomited 500 gallons of epoxy on it, not to mention what appears to be damage by an enture termite colony on the interior.

Unless the keel, bulkheads & other critical structures are undamaged (just surface & cosmetic damage), I would steer clear of this boat. It's a money pit. Scout around to find a boat that has at least been protected from the elements (and idiots).

    Dick Carter

    Dear all,
According to a message by Yves-Marie Tanton to a friend of mine, attached, Dick Carter passed away about 5 years ago. Happy 4th owner of a 37 I am attaching a picture.

    I wish you were right

Yves-Marie Tanton, who was his chief designer for a number of years, says that Dick Carter passed away years ago, other web sites say he died in 2007, my emails to the address I had bounce back saying that the mailbox is not active anymore, my letters by normal mail to 6 Spouting Horn Road, Nahant, MA 01908 which is the latest address I have bounce back saying that he is not anymore there and the present address is unknown but you are sure that he is still alive - I wish you are right, if you have an address please let me have it, I have so many news to share with Dick, the last time we got together was 1982 or 1983, while the last time wa corresponded was in 2003.

Great thinker. Whenever there was a design challenge, he would never take no for an answer. Pushing the envelop. I was 25 years old at the time and I am so thankful to have been hired to be part of the design of so many great boats. My story could hardly be replicated these days.
A little about the 37 on my blog.
