Boat name and boat graphics decals

Hello,

I am new to the forum. My husband and are refinishing our boat. We're adding a marine coating being applied at the boat shop and it's suppose to look new again. We live in a rural area on a fairly narrow river. I was considering having custom graphics made by a company called Streetglo. They make reflective vinyl boat graphics and I was wondering if anyone could tell me any rules regarding reflective graphics???? I am thinking of doing the boat name in a two color reflective format and having them make a long pointed two color matching side stripe. I know this stuff works because we saw it on the river and just our running light was enough to light up the back of another boat tied up to a dock. I we could see it long before the boat, so it got my interest.

Can anybody add any comments about this? I was wondering if there might be rules about colors or whatever.

They are fine to use on any of the graphics elements applied to your boat. I don't think there's a law, strictly against them being used on your registration (the PA number on each side of your bow) but the locals may give you a hard time anyway, if used on those numbers. They get kind of nutty if something is different or unusual, even if there isn't a specific law prohibiting them. Go for it . . .

Reflective

Well, I did go for it. Streetglo sent them overnight and we got them today. We only put on the boat name decal tonight, I'll save the rest for later. We got a gold on blue outlined boat name decal about 7" tall and maybe 40" wide and installed it today. We checked it tonight from about 500 ft away with a keychain flashlight. Ohmygod! The light never hit the boat but the boat name lit up like it was daylight. I can not believe it. I am thrilled. Theres a picture here (not us, but streetglo). We didn't get the registration numbers but I'm ordering them tomorrow.

New question... We waxed the area that we put the decals about a month before. We only cleaned with a houselhold cleaner. So far no problems but I hope we didn't mess up not making sure alll the wax was off...

I actually try to leave some wax in place on the hull. It makes the removal of graphics much easier and the things seem to stay stuck in spite of my efforts to foul the area with wax before hand. I learned this trick from a guy that applied graphics to race cars, that had to have different applications of graphics several times a session.
