IIRC baby Bush's first election was based on a miscount in Florida, it took a few years to find out for sure about that, he was half way his first term by then, and he was reelected, so I'll guess that's what the US people wanted after all.

    Don't get me started.
Ramos and Campion got a raw deal from his administration.

Three sailors were marooned on a deserted island that was also inhabited by a band of monkeys. The sailors worked all day to collect coconuts but were too tired that night to count them. They agreed to divide them equally the next morning. During the night, one sailor woke up and decided to get his share. He found that he could make three equal piles, with one coconut left over, which he threw to the monkeys. Thereupon, he had his own share and left the remainder in a single pile. Later that night, the second sailor awoke and, likewise, decided to get his share of the coconuts. He also was able to make three equal piles, with one coconut left over, which he threw to the monkeys. The third sailor awoke and did the exact same thing as the other two. In the morning, all three sailors noticed that the pile was considerably smaller, but each thought that he knew why and said nothing. When they then divided the remaining coconuts equally, each sailor received seven and one was left over, which they then threw to the monkeys. How many coconuts were in the original pile???

What would the answer be if, instead of coconuts, they were votes? Would the answer be different in Florida than in some other state?;)

A Greek sailor goes to the sailmaker with his torn trousers over his arm.
    “Euripides?” asked the sailmaker.
    “Yes, Eumenides?” asked the sailor.

The question about the number of coconuts seems to be hard enough, leave the Florida voters out of the question please . . . .

‘‘ . . . . . . The problem became notorious when American novelist and short story writer Ben Ames Williams modified an older problem and included it in a story, "Coconuts", in the October 9, 1926 issue of The Saturday Evening Post. . . . . . . . . . Williams had not included an answer in the story. The magazine was inundated by more than 2,000 letters pleading for an answer to the problem. The Post editor, Horace Lorimer, famously fired off a telegram to Williams saying: "FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE, HOW MANY COCONUTS? HELL POPPING AROUND HERE". Williams continued to get letters asking for a solution or proposing new ones for the next twenty years. . . . . . . ’’

You are on a Boat Design game show when the host asks, "you have the opportunity to win a new 38 foot yacht worth a grand total of $100,000.00[IMG] , but you have to guess correctly which curtain it is behind. If you choose unwisely, you could be left with more work and expense than owning a boat is worth. Please choose curtain number 1 or curtain number 2 or curtain number 3. One has the grand prize behind it and two conceal a Booby prize"

You think about your choice much longer than random chance should require, but you finally decide on one of the three curtains.

The host says, "Are you sure that's the one you want to choose?

You nod your head in the affirmative.

"I'll tell you what," the host says, "there are two curtains left, I'll show you what's behind one of them."

She has her assistant open one of the other curtains.
    It reveals...

    curtain.gif
    a big purple dinosaur.

The host helpfully asks again. "Are you sure that's the curtain you want? You can change and pick the remaining curtain, if you want."
So... is it better to stick with your original choice or change your selection and go with the other curtain?

I'm familiar with this, and understand the explanation, and still find this perhaps the most confounding problem I know!
