I don't know Homer and Jethro, but apparently the TV series Camp Runamuck was based on Allan Sherman's song, Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah, which I do know from way back:

And from the same era, here's Tom Lehrer:

And on our side of the pond, there was Flanders and Swann:

Some of their work and, indeed, Tom Lehrer's might make us a little squirmy in todays PC world. Hopefully not the sciencey samples I've chosen. And speaking of singing about science...

Somewhere around here I've got, IIRC, an Omni magazine with a Last Word essay that tracked the coarsening of public behavior to the rise of the leisure suit in business and government.

Now, I'm a little young to have witnessed that apocalyptic transformation but I'm old enough to have seen how automatic doors, once considered a high end architectural touch but now almost everywhere, haven't done chivalry any favors. In fact, the rise of automatic doors has become so big of a problem that we are fast approaching the day when the only doors you'll ever have to manually open are those at your home and those at your church. It makes perfect sense that when it's OUR door that we'll be cheap but with religious institutions I suspect that doors we actually open ourselves will someday be seen as the only expediency to get us to slow down and say hi to each other now and again.

Still, if a church installs automatic doors, never mind revolving doors, can valet and metered parking be far behind?

    TWO POLITICIANS

One day a politician approached another legislator to tell of a dream that he had.

He said: "There was a humongous parade in Washington in your honor. More people than I could count or even guess at their numbers lined the parade route, cheering as you were driven past. There were bands playing, children throwing confetti into the air, balloons and colorful streamers everywhere. It had to be the biggest celebration Washington had ever seen since the end of WW2."

The second politician was very flattered and said, "That's really great! By the way, how did I look in your dream? Was my hair OK? Was I still keeping the weight off?"

"I couldn't tell ... the casket was closed."

On a side note, peace needs to be made between enemies, but some new political friends seem to share weight and hairstyle problems, which is good because it creates a start of a bond.
