Zamgod - welcome aboard
Days like that are the reason nobody ever regrets buying an anchor that's a size or two larger than normal.....
Gonzo - Definitely, I wouldn't want to leave a boat unattended if an electric pump is all that's keeping her afloat. Shedding water naturally is vastly preferable to having to trust your boat to an automatic pump.
I must say the bildge pumps you get is of pathetic quality. They all use these small brushed dc motors, and the 'brushes' is little fingers that wear out after a short while. Can't they make a decent water pump ?
I will rather prefer a good quality and reliable pump. If it does suck things in and it gets damaged then it's my neglegence. If it doesn't suck things in I would prefer it is capable of sucking the water out, which it cannot really do reliably.
I want my pump to be an accessory, not a consumable. Simple change, ie use a brushless dc motor instead of a brushed dc motor. That alone will be about a 1000% improvement.
