a House, or a Boat

'Floating House'

Of course one might combine the 2 themes,...a house-boat

Bali or Thai style houseboat

The thought has occurred to me after spending a delightful afternoon on a bamboo raft vessel for lunch and siesta, that it might be quite nice to have a seaside cottage in the style of a Bali or Thai style built on a floating platform for mobility along the coastline.

Has anyone ever seen such a vessel, raft, barge??

This is another vessel I could live on,...a Pilgrim 40

A house rarely sinks and goes down in value.

There are houses near me that are trying to prove you wrong (old houses poor foundations).

A boat at times needs a boatyard, a house (normally) comes with a yard (garden). My garden is used by me as a boatyard

If you really think about it.... buy a large van.... much cheaper and just park at Walmart at night.... I could have saved millions.

What it does for the imagination of exploring far off lands and islands. Remember "Adventures in Paradise" ...I wrote a little about it here:

It's hard to put an 'investment price' on this :)
Great video of a fellow who built his boat and is now out there for the adventure.
....can't put a price on this experience

We are very proud of this video and we hope you share it around to inspire more people to get out there and just do it!!

Thought about that idea recently for the inland areas of Thailand. If your 'house' was 'floating capable' it might have made out better in those bad floods they experienced this year.

Besides if your house could 'float' you might have this garden/pond scene without all of the foundation problems associated with being right next to water

Regrettably, men are the hunter/gathers, while women cherish that security of home. This can interfere with wandering dreams...

So build the ex a shabby house and yourself an excellent yacht. Sell the yacht before it inevitably goes down in value, then drink the profit with a fresh wench. Huzzah!
