Which is sad IMO. So yes let the public have a spectacle, they don't know what they are watching anyway so it might as well be as bright and shiny as it can be. It will not hold my attention for long but as you say I'd rather be on the course in one design mono for preference at the moment until we get some decent support for a one design multi (preferably international) here. Love to see the Seacarts get wide support... anyway, another life :)

Let me know when the AC dust settles and it becomes a yacht race again :p :D

Will they be allowed to use exocets to add to the spectacle? :D

I just did 3 days on a Corsair 750 Sprint. I too would like to see a international multi OD get some support. I know for a fact that we didn't make any friends in the mono-hull fleet.

IMO a bit of positive exposure for multi's via the AC and a few good cruiser/racer type multi's would be a big boost for sailing. Look at all the cruiser/racer monos that got sold in the last 30-40 years. Swap them out for a boat that doesn't heel, doesn't need deep water, and has a from the cockpit easy to handle sailplan and we might see local racing fleets get bigger again.

I'm chartering a Cat in the Whit Sundays in October, here's hoping wifey and her friends get excited about sailing flat! (I want to get rid of my leaner).

It would get them watching... :D Lets make it a little more tactical and put short range cannons on board.

Is that a nice way of saying I'll get stuck in a condomaran? :D

As long as my last mate sees a multi as more comfy and less work than a 6-8 knot, plastic, little used and poorly maintained yacht (except mine is maintained 'as new') I have a chance of getting a new boat. Mono's in F5+ tend to scare her ... :(

Probably a Seawind 1000.... no? They are great to slip around the Whitsundays on but at 4600kg for a 33' boat don't expect too much in the way of speed.

Don't be teasing an old man ...

What I'd like to find is a Cross 45R in restorable shape ... I confess to liking the looks of his stuff much more than what I've seen from more current designers.

Although if the last mate says "let's get a Gunboat" I'm not going to argue!

Nice lines... good designs always age well. Beanz rule of thumb, she has gotta look good to be good. Irrational and emotional yes but I insist its true!

Yeah, ain't that a pretty boat? Moderate numbers by today's standards and it doesn't fold ...

I think I could be very happy with one of those.

AC course now seems set ... into dark waters

Well written article about the latest on AC:

    http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/03/20/sports/ARENA.php

The issues covered are comprehensive. Good discussion of the other people whose jobs are affected when the big money - big ego guys go at it.

If this is accurate it looks like we'll see a pair of huge multihulls streaking across the water next year.

Commitment by both to get a stable and equitable formula and "open to all" challenger format back by 2011. Hmmmm, why am I skeptical?

Don't worry the money will dry up by 2011 and that will dictate the look of the cup by then... if indeed there is one. Sounds melodramatic don't it? I wish it where not a distinct possibility... :(

Just to boggle the mind ... if Uncle Larry has 30 billion ... and he puts it in a savings account at 3% ...

He has to spend $75 million each month to keep from getting richer ...

I'm pretty sure that BMWO will be there for 2011 :D
