It's a Formula 40, James, one of the very earliest, around 1986, designed and built by the Cook Brothers in Christchurch; I remember talking to the brothers about the proposed cat during a Sea Spray article about boat building when down South.
Weight would be around 1800kgs (just a guess, maybe a little more) beam around 8m, was considered very wide for the time. There was a great photograph taken of F40 during one of the windy Coastal Classics - but I haven't got it, nor have any shots of my own (but will check again).
The crossbeams were bright red, mast too if I remember correctly, and the hulls a silver grey originally - but no green; Basil in Australia is mistaking another cat for F40.

We had another F40 in Australia "Simply the Best" it was Jutson design I think it still exists and is now based in Seattle and called "Dragonfly".

It won line honours (but not handicap) in four Brisbane to Gladstone races 94, 96, 97 and 98 line honours in 95 was taken by Australia's Child (the renamed Bullfrog/Verbatim trimaran).

    34th AC

    From Scuttlebutt tonight:
    * Auckland, New Zealand (July 24, 2012) - In a video interview, Emirates
Team NZ meteorologist Roger (Clouds) Badham assessed the likelihood of their
AC72 getting out on the water anytime soon. "It's a trade-off between
finding the right breeze. They would like to be under 10 knots and maybe
even down to five knots. We're trying to get the boat as ready as quickly as
we can." Badham says conditions don't look good until possibly Friday, or
    even Monday-Tuesday next week.

I can confirm this, having driven past the boat yesterday. She's parked along I-5 at Dagmar's Marina in Everett.

Hmm. I understand not pushing the envelope on your first sail, but that makes it sound like they are either terrified of the beast, or afraid it won`t hold together. Waiting for 5 knots, when they will have to race this thing is SF Bay is a relatively entertaining thought.

This... These boas are scary fast, and they definatly want the first sail to be very controlable.

Yeah, I think if I looked up at a 40m long wing, I'd also be scared to break it on the first day. I'm just itching to see this thing fly, no criticism of the team was intended..
