    The books I currently own are all pretty much about traditional boatbuilding. So I just ordered Michalak's Boatbuilding for Beginners, and another copy of Parker's The Sharpie Book, for a more modern perspective. Next week I'll order The New Cold-Molded Boatbuilding.

    I already had The Sharpie Book, but it disappeared on me; I suspect my nephew absconded with it. I know he has several other books of mine, including John Gardner's The Dory Book and his Classic Small Craft You Can Build.

    Right! But to me the NIS method looks like easier to build and less* modified*, then Parker's method, especially in the bow.

    * for what that's worth.

    Yes, Parker has the Exuma's, Terrapin's and Presto's from the book ‘‘The New Cold-Molded Boatbuilding’’ not under 'Sharpies' but under 'Cruising Sail Designs' in his price list.

    Angel

    Yes. I almost got hysterical when I found out what original hardback copies of The Dory Book are going for.

    My book started falling apart on me when I first started reading it; apparently the glue was bad. For years most of it has been basically a stack of loose-leafed pages, stuffed into the cover. But amazingly enough, last time I checked every page was still there.

    As far as getting it back goes, it's just a matter of time. My nephew was raised in the Arizona and California desert, and Oklahoma is driving him crazy on multiple levels. He'll be back, and the books will be with him...

    Troy2K, you should take the pages to a bookbinder.

    As a side note , I have been working on a dory design. Nothing new , but in that pursuit , I have come to the conclusion that a wider radius bottom, with less flair is the way to go, and not much more work.

    Never even occurred to me. Do such people still exist?

    Yes, but you may buy materials to build a sharpie with what they charge. Nowadays the do antiques and such.

    Yes... but normally not working, we have one in the family. You should find a restoration place somewhere, try the local printer... they often know these things.

    You might be able to do it yourself if you find the how-to info.

    If its a precious book you want a trade qualified book binder, not some numpty with tape and padding glue. Just sayin...
