yeah the cheetah cats have identical hulls. i made a start on the frame work for the plug today. made the transom frame work and will be putting the ply on it this weekend. will try and get some more timber during the week to make the next 5 frames forward. not got a lot of money at the moment so this will be a slowish project until i sell my boat in the new year to fund it.

    Hi Garry,

I am also looking to build a boat the same type as you are, i found your post whilst doing research on google.

The design/plan i have for the boat is along the lines of the cheetah cats, the main use for the boat will be fast offshore wreck fishing, but am looking to save marina fees by towing the boat, at present i have a 2008 Bayliner 246.

What area of the uk are you in?

hi bob. i live just outside portsmouth. i have today started on the rear 1/3rd of the plug today. hoping to clad it in ply soon. my mates brother is doing me 3d drawings which i should have back soon.

the cheetah cats are ok but for the size of boat they are to narrow for me. the 6.2 mtr cat has a beam of only 2.4 mtrs and there hulls are only 30" wide. my cat will be 22-23ft long and the hulls will be 35" wide making for very stable platform. im also hoping that the way i have designed the boat that it will not need lots of power to do 30 knotts.

if you want you can pm me and i'll give you my mobile number and you can ring me for a chat.

Thanks Gary, will send you a pm.

Are you planning to trail or moor the boat?, the reason i ask is that you will be very close to, or too wide for the maximum towing width on uk roads.

Have a look on www.nesa .co.uk in the boat fishing forums, i posted on there regarding building a cat about a month ago, one of the lads put on some usefull links and info, i also have a few which i will post.

i was told that the european law for towing was 2.55mtrs and the owner of cheetah cats said that the british law was 2.7mtrs. not 100% sure if he's right though. my boat will be 1.5" under 2.7mtrs wide. i am hoping to keep the boat afloat but will have a trailer for it.

I am sure it is 2.55mtrs, but that is trailer size maximum mudguard to mudguard.

I used to have a 6 wheel boat trailer which i used to move boats around the country for people, on the nesa website you will see my boat on the trailer when i collected it.

2.3 mtrs if towed behind a vehicle of less than 3500gvw, 2.55 mtrs if vehicle above 3500gvw.
