18ft planing boat, how much hp?

    don't you think an old school outboard will be unhappy cruising at 6 knts for extended periods. all mine have used more fuel at that speed than at 20 knts. not to mention oiling up although the new synthetic oils and center fire plugs take care of that .

    It is never ideal to be running a planing hull like this at 5-6 knots anyway, for long distances, but yes, a non-DFI 2S will not be efficient at that speed.
