I have built an 18 foot displacement hull that I am outfitting as a sort of long distance cruiser. I am just about done working on the hull and the cabin frame. I was wondering what are some essientals I should have the boat outfitted with? On my list I have
    Batteries
    Cabin fans
    Bow and Stern Lights
    Spotlight
    Gas Tank
    Frest watter tank
    Ballast tank
    bildge pump
    storage for food and such
    livewell
    baitwell
    Cooking supplies
a rack for my surfboard ;)
    Cable steering system
    Sail for backup power

Anyone have anything they think is important to add to the list?

Its a small boat so i'm thinking/hoping a simple fire extinguisher should be sufficient? also for detection I am going to make my own water detection system in the hull and and I am going to buy a simple sonar and GPS

Check applicable regulations, if any, at that type and size of boat.

If you have a gas tank (assuming you mean cooking gas, not engine fuel), then you need a gas detector in any enclosed spaces.
