Just came across this post on a professional website:
    www.linkedin.com/hp/update/6217592402329329664

"Mr. Sadullah ALTAY has sent out this fascinating post of a ship being lifted by Helicopters and asked a question. I thought of sharing this as this is quite imaginative. Regardless of veracity of the photograph, the questions that need to be asked are: 1. What size load can be lifted by the four helicopters? 2. How many helicopters will it take to lift such a load? The answers will then give rise to numerous possibilities!! Any feedback would be fantastic and a share to get feedback would be much appreciated. Regards, Baljit."

Considering this hypothetical situation, do you think such a thing is possible?

The helicopters in the picture seem to be Sikorsky S-64, which can lift a payload of 9t.
Hence, 4 such helicopters can lift 4x9t=36t.

Here comes a question for you:
Does the ship in the picture look like something that weighs 36 t?

Short answer is no. Long answer is that if all it takes to be fascinating is to make up fake preposterous photographs, then it goes a long way toward explaining our latest presidential election.

:D On top of that it's a loaded ship.

An answer in that thread is : "In the picture you have 4 Sikorsky Skycranes. Each Skycrane has a maximum payload capacity of just over 9 tons, giving a combined lifting capability of 36 tons. That ship is at a guess is 15,000 tons so 417 Skycranes would be needed ................. The only device available to lift a vessel of this size would be a semi-submersible barge."

Have you ever heard of floating docks (not barges), dry docks and other artifacts that I do not know how they are called in English but that you can see in the photo?. As you can see, there are several other systems, sufficiently proven, that make it unnecessary to resort to helicopters.
Have you ever thought of the shear stress transmitted by the suspension ropes to the hull of the ship?.What if, for example, the wind unbalances the helicopters and one of them has to bear much more load than the others ?. In sort, your hypothetical operation does not seem very viable.

:D Another answer on that thread: "a S-64 skycrane can lift about 12.5 tons, the four of them together could lift one of the coastguard boats in the foreground ...but only when they pull vertical, not sideways as in the picture. Hence question no. 3: How many minutes does it take to photoshop a picture and fool 100 viewers???"

Question of the year ! I know some Soviet-era helicopters could lift around 25 tons, no mean feat, and the rotor blades would bend like bananas.

I have to tell the guy next to me that owns a boat yard. He has all these expensive large cranes to life these small 40 to 60 foot boats. I mean if I could lift my little boat, it is only like 60-70 tons with a few balloons or even a few helicopters...

Btw, it is not just the lifting ability but also the length of the arm, lifting a 60 ton boat usually requires a 120 ton crane...

Well, if the ship were made of ultralight Unobtanium and the S-64s powered by Unbelievium maybe....

That my friend is because Persians are very old and wise people. We in the West have yet to fully understand your technology which is why we still use tugs. Maybe in the future......
