@peterAustralia: Would a good compromise be to increase the deadrise to perhaps 15 degrees and have large rudders? I want a boat that can be beached if necessary and having a deep V just does not allow that safely in my opinion. Too much chance of ruining the hull.

@Windraf: I have nothing against the shorter style of ama. My only issue is that on a weight to windward it would not have enough displacement to deal with the weight and pressure from the sail.[/QUOTE]

I think we don't understand each other.
    No shorter, but asymmetric.
I add a design of traditional proa: you can see that the main hull is asymmetrical; This geometry does not need dagger board.
Your proa is of course the opposite with the amas downwind, but you can do the amas downwind as the main hull of the traditional proa.

Daniel there are fantastic cruising grounds with endless beaches, bays and warm water in the north which would be a proas delight. Make it trailerable and you have lots of options.

@motorbike: what about something like this?

It's called the KIR 8A, 7m long and made of 9mm ply. How much do you reckon a boat like that would cost overall? I calculated that the hulls would cost about a thousand british pounds. 432GBP for the ply, 380GBP for the epoxy and glass and another 300GBP approximately for the other wood needed for bulkheads, gunwhales etc.
