There should be a hull number somewhere on the transom, usually upper starboard side. The first few letters indicate the builder.

Look harder, often are very difficult to see. They are stamped in and often get filled with grunge, paint etc. First places to check are upper corners of the transom, but not all builders where consistent.

That boat looks new enough that it should have one, hull numbers have been mandatory for quite a long time now.

That boat's styling looks to be possably before mandatory HIN's in 1973. More pictures would be helpful with an upper starboard side of the transom shot in high resolution.

 

Is this your boat or just a pic you found?
Does it have a name on the back? I tried the side name-no luck.

I think it's a Gary Mull design. See Ranger 23/26. Can't figure the rudder out though.

 

Yep, looks like the 23 and early versions of this boat wouldn't have a HIN on the transom. Good catch Phil . . .

Hull deck joint and rail detail don't look Ranger. I think it's a Newport 23, also designed by Mull. Built by the Newport that also did the C&C designed 27 and the Mull designed 30 and not a Venture built Newport 23.

lincoln, are you still out there? The link to your boat is now broken. I still don't know what it is, but I just discovered a second one not half a mile from my house. It is also abandoned and looking for a good home. It has NC reg numbers so you could track it down that way and discover how the owner of this one registered it. Let me know if you want me to write down the reg numbers next time I go by. Talk about a weird coincidence.
