Help me find a boat: 26ft planing centerboard wood sailboat?

Locally, the 26' wooden boat is an Alerion, but has a lee board, not a real centerboard. Not beachable. Also, they are damned expensive. The local centerboard boats are Rhodes 19 and Marshall 18, which are too small.

Help me find a boat: 26ft planing centerboard wood sailboat?

A Scows are 38' long. Are you suggesting I custom-built a 26' scaled version? That's a different question. I'm trying to find something already available used.

Help me find a boat: 26ft planing centerboard wood sailboat?

I was looking at a Raven class sloop. 24'3", planing centerboard classic sailboat, but I found out the race I want to do has a 26' min LOA. Basically, I'm looking for a 26'0" Raven. Any ideas?

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

Good eye. It doesn't seem like rating should change much from a 99% to 100% to 101% jib. On the topic of parentheses, the formulas for LBRC, DLF, and SaDF have odd numbers of them... I'm going to email the rule committee and ask for clarification.

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

You're absolutely right. And the creators of this rating formula seem to be paying better attention than some. For instance, when IOR boats started getting ugly to try to beat that Rating rule. I'm sure if anyone showed yo with foils or wingsails the wouldn't be allowed to race, even if the...

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

I can't find anything written about minimum main/mizen mast ratio to qualify as a yawl/ketch. I'm sure if you pushed it too far the race organizers would just call you a sloop.

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

That boat certainly looks optimized for 3mph breeze. Optimizing for a very narrow band of conditions is one way to win. For example, if you plan for 30mph winds (probably the maximum wind before the race would be canceled), with a very small rig, and you're the only boat that isn't reefed...

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

I originally picked 26 feet because I think there are some other classic races with that limit. But let's keep it simple: 24' LoA.

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

I've read their whole website. I agree that Classic Rating Formula (CRF) seems to have been created by some dedicated, smart people. And I understand that the formula continues to be updated in an effort to improve parity and discourage optimization. That's why beating the rule could be such...

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

Obviously lots of hull design parameters in the rule, but this thread is just about rig type. For some reason they have ketches rated slightly slower than yawls. Why did you pick yawl instead of ketch? Were you thinking minimum size main gaff, minimum size mizen mast, minimum size mizen gaff...

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

I don't believe the rigs needs to be "traditionally proportioned", though I do know the formula was revised to reclassify mini-gaff rigs (very short gaff, to the point of looking like a square-topped main), due to W-37 Racehorse trying to beat the formula (which didn't even work, because the...

New low-cost "hardware store" racing class; input on proposed rules

I read the first 15 pages of this thread, but stopped when all the posts were suggestions that had already been made once. Which page of the thread are the final rules on? Any way to "sticky" them to the top of the thread (as an attachment, or something)?

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

This is the exact discussion I am hoping to start. Slower rigs are rated slower. The question is, which of them is undervalued, or "underrated" the most? If it were obvious to me, I wouldn't be asking! They all seem pretty fairly rated (handicapped). Maybe the gaff rigs? Because those ratings...

Classic Rating Formula (CRF) "Rig Factor"

The Classic Rating Formula (CRF) applies a "Rig Factor" to calculate corrected time. So, higher number=higher corrected time=faster boat. Which rig type seems most under-rated? As in, if you were to try to beat the formula, which rig would you choose? And why (if we dare?) Assume 15 mph...

    Inflated Wing Sails

    AC 36 Foiling Monohulls

Anyone heard more about the AC75 wingsail mains? Requirement is that they cannot be craned in and out every day, so must be hoistable? I would welcome some more development dollars being put towards practical wingsail design solutions...

New low-cost "hardware store" racing class; input on proposed rules

I believe the points-system was already explored in the first ten pages of this thread. Which one of the rules will prevent someone from building a foiling windsurfer (sailboard)?

    Classic Rating Formula (CRF)

The race is on Nantucket Sound, Typical weather is 5-15 mph, and 1-2 ft seas. One way to optimize the rating formula would be to have multiple boats, each designed for different wind speeds, and then only choose one of them to race based on the forecast. That strategy isn't cost-effective...
