Halfway

Ok folks I have had a good breakfast and a headache tablet, feeling better now after yesterdays nonsence with the beer and the antifouling paint
Jeez but that stuff has got STRONG fumes

Anyway back to Sven and his adventure.
We can confidently say that he is halfway.
At this pace it could be 30 days BUT the winds for NEXT WEEK is forecast as poor, but good possibilities for rain.
Sven will have too little wind, and pity for NEW York with too much.

And yes Yes, the Arrandir is also one of my favourites, love it
I am very happy to see him on Wiki and that his books will be translated to English, it will give him a small pension that he deserves.

In the first part of interview at 10 to 14 min. Sven tells about his first attemt to round Cape Horn in Bris I. After being capsized and a week later being pitchpoled he decided he didn't have the experience to round the Horn in that boat at that time. So he decided to sail east to the most remote inhabited place on earth. After two months Tristan da Cunha popt up on the horizon.

Well... the man must know how to collect drinking water and food on the ocean as this wasn't a planned trip . . . and when he went he didn't know if it was inhabited or if he could land there. If not, St. Helena, 1,312 NM north, was next. I think he would have survived that also as it was factored into his decision to go to from north of the Falklands to Tristan da Cunha.

It sure gives some confident on his current water situation

He is slowing down quite a bit. Only 20 NM in the last 16 1/3 hours. That is only 1.225 NM/h

When a smaller boat, say less than 30 feet or so, is found to have been reduces to "pieces", does that typically indicate it was rammed by a large vessel?

Other than a major storm or angry whale, I just can't imagine what else would cause a boat to breakup like that.

Any thoughts?

 

Container or a large log? Maybe badly built boat?

 

Something is wrong

Something is obviously wrong. Sven Yrvind seems to be getting cold feet concerning sailing his boat to USA. At least if one takes his latest positions into account. I hope he isn't injured or sick. Can he send a distress signal?

but I would like to put you folk's mind at ease
I half and half expected this being blown backwards, with the current winds on UGRIB
what worries me more than anything is that I dont think this boat can sail away from a lee-shore and THAT'S DANGEROUS

yes he can, click on map legend and there you will see the sign for "help" it's the marker with the ! mark

my spot map at least looks the same as Angélique which is very good for deepest darkest Africa remember anything can happen in my neck of the woods

Never heard of a whale near Italy. ‘‘rammed by a large vessel?’’ - could be, or beaten and broken on a rocky shore, but in that case Evgeny would have been found along with the debris and not two weeks later I think. But don't know more details then this in post#53, also don't know how literally we have to take those ‘‘pieces’’.

He was 75 maybe he just died? - Or fell overboard? - Which also sealed the fate of the boat?

Nobody but Evgeny was apparently there, only more details would help to know what happened I think..
