As fingermullet the new 19ft swing wing trimaran of Dr. Frank Smoot was influenced by the EC. It offers space for a bunk for the tired sailor and can be provided with a little shelter for him in bad weather: http://www.diy-tris.com/2012/11-19-footer.htm
The photo documentation is perfect and very interesting.

The more pictures are released about the EC the more extraordinary creativity of the participants is visible. The very special conditions produced a lot of interesting designs and ideas aside the mainstream multihulls. http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/multihulls/randy-smyths-trimaran-37078-3.html please scroll down to posting 35.

One more of these interesting designs is the 19ft trimaran of Roger Mann who was lucky to achieve a remarkable new record of 2d/16h/7m in class three http://watertribe.org/jollyroger/2-days-16-hours-and-7-mins/ and bettered the the old time by 19 hours and 13 minutes thanks to the special wind and weather conditions the right design and Rogers capabilities.

It was not his fastest main hull design as before when he did not succeed and broke his rudder.

It is a self built decked canoe as an angus row boat http://www.angusrowboats.com/ somewhat similar to a Kruger Canoe http://watertribe.org/jollyroger/category/uncategorized/ which he was not able to get a used one. http://sandybottomkayaker.blogspot.de/2012/03/loading-kruger-cruiser.html

The basic arrangement came from Hobie Tandem Island with folding akas, the pedaled mirage drive and mast combined with inflatable Watertribe Big 16 amas with little skegs. I could not find a dagger- or centerboard or a low aspect ratio keel.http://watertribe.org/jollyroger/photos-2013/. But the boat pointed sufficiently.

As for me his blog with the whole history of his designs and his tests is worth reading. http://watertribe.org/jollyroger/patriot-shakedown/ and "previous"..... all.

    Videos from CE

    ECMullet1.JPG

Marty Sullivan and pilot Maura Sullivan made four great videos from their Coleman Canoe very close to the participants of the EC. On video one Roger Mann with "Jolly Roger" is to be seen on the way to his record and the film shows the interesting hydrodynamics (on the enlarged screen) of the special hull built for the race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcaCip4Rp7g

Video three shows Channing Boswell (DanceswithMullet) with "FingerMullet" from 9:37 to 10:16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxhwUz1zuU8

Thank you Manfred for the link, and Channing for the article. Most interesting.

For your next polystyrene foam-cored project you might find this way of tying the two fiberglass skins together intriguing.

It is a big forum here with many participants, things are changing from minute to minute and I am happy to have the adress for the vid from Warren Richey. It is a rare present. Thank you for this Hoyt.

One sentence of a lady struck me most: ...big grin in their face ... in the hardest conditions..

    ...

I've boated along this racecourse/coast from Tampa to Everglades City, but I've never seen the stretch between Everglades City and a few miles west of Largo.

What is the preferred route the sailors take when they leave Flamingo? Where do the cats and tri's choose to sail at that stage?

Have the checkpoints gotten easier to reach? Stump Pass and the two others don't seem as complicated as what I recall being described in reports from earlier versions.

    ;)
