    Advice please gentlemen
Has anyone bought a Chinese electric winch lately?

I'm considering buying two 1200 watt winches with a 316 stainless steel capstan about 75 mm / 3 inches diameter - working load 240 kg
The price is about $US1200 each instead of about $US5000 for Lewmar 50EST

Or there is a larger one with 1600 watt, drum diameter 100 mm / 4 inches for about $US1370 - working load 340 kg

    The boat is a multihull - displacement 14 t
Your valuable advice and wisdom is needed
    Thanks
    Michael

Are you buying them direct from the supplier in China, or from a local dealer in Australia?
Do they come with any form of guarantee?
Do you have any links to these winches?
Does Google come up with any reviews (positive or negative) about them?

    Good questions bajansailor
    1. direct from China
    2. yes, one year, but what is it worth
    3. no links
    4. no reviews

Think I've decided to go Lewmar or Harken - screw the expense - the boat and our safety are more important
Also these Chinese ones are not self tailing - that means one person needed to hold the tail and there will only be me and my wife

That sounds like a sensible move!
How do the electric Lewmar sheet winches compare against a non electric and slightly larger Lewmar winch?
Or is an electric winch a priority?
Are these winches for the headsail sheets?

The working load of a sailing winch is typically much higher
