First time poster so please excuse me if this has been discussed already but I'm about to mount twin Merc 115 4stroke's on my 27 centre console but the transom opening for the motors is not quite wide enough to place them the recommended 26" apart. Should I modify the transom to allow for the recommended distance between motors or should I go ahead an mount them where I can (23") apart and see if there is a noticeable difference in performance?

I guess my question is, will 3" make a difference?

    Thanks,

You should be fine if you do not have a tunnel hull. Flat or V hull are good to go.
Set them at the correct height.
