According to the Italian Sea Group, the New York Times attributed to the design choice of the single-mast a "not documented instability: the Bayesan, despite having a slightly different stability curve from a ketch - explains the company - is nevertheless fully and largely compliant with the stability criteria defined by the Maritime Coastguard Agency for commercial sailing vessels". The Italian Sea Group also specifies that "the Bayesian was designed by one of the most famous naval architects in the world, Ron Holland, while we do not read any names of designers who say they apodictically claim that the boat offers obvious weaknesses".

As for the ship's doors, "we would like to emphasize that the doors mentioned are watertight - he continues - as required by the regulations and can cause progressive flooding only if left open and with heel angles greater than 30 degrees, so they cannot represent in any way a design defect or a weakness, if operated correctly", concludes The Italian Sea Group. (ANSA).

ANSA) - PALERMO, NOVEMBER 07 - The Italian Sea Group, the company that took over the Perini Navi brand, the shipyard that built the Bayesian, the sailing yacht that sank last August at sea in Porticello, has instructed its lawyers to take action against the New York Times for the article published on October 31. "The article reported a narrative on the sinking of the Bayesian, completely devoid of technical consistency - explains the company in a note - moreover keeping silent the source who, if really qualified, would have had no problem being cited. Given that TISG acquired, in January 2021, the Perini brand, the archives, and the real estate part of Perini Navi from the bankruptcy auction, and therefore cannot in any way be considered responsible for any event that may be attributable to the sinking, the company intends to move - it underlines - against the American newspaper for the damage to the image attributable to the brand and reputation of Perini Navi, so far a symbol of technological perfection and the highest expression of Italian boating in the world".

"/ˌˈæpəˌdɪktɪk/ Other forms: apodictically. Anything apodictic is certain: it cannot be disputed. The existence of gravity is apodictic. This word comes from a Greek verb meaning to demonstrate, and it applies to things that have been demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt."

( In case anyone else was wondering. )

And let's not forget; there is a huge chance this sinking, flooding, knockdown,
may have never happened had that irritatingly noisey keel been down.

I'm with Phil, this thread is a slow roll out of uncontexctualized links that could be linked and posted with a ten years old browser bots.

The purpose of forums historically, was well reasoned free flow of ideas. We'll reasoned or supported speculation drives engagement, without thst there is only a semi regular reminder to unsubscribe and look for alternative discussion sources.

His right to start a thread, ours to question it's utility....

for those of you without a modicum of gratefulness or graciousness, your lack of manners and inflexibility is baffling, we are doing all we can to find out why this boat sank, with its intakes too close to the waterline, and its mast only safe when the keel was down, but it appears they rarely put it down, as, lacking sufficient bury in the hull, it made an awful noise throughout the hull, much like the pompous arrogance of some posters here, so they kept it up, lacking enough chain it seems to anchor ,keel down in 50 metres, they anchored in 20/25 metres, keel up, here is a link for you to a forum thread i have greatly contributed to, under another name , in our continuing efforts to find out why this boat sank, in such a strange way

The forums, the free content provider and the audience

They have not paid admission to the theater, but they want the free content provider to entertain, inform or amuse them according to their exquisite taste.

Iron law of forums: messages should not be too long or too short, neither too serious nor too joking

The free content provider must remember that its high mission is to inform and entertain an exquisite audience as it deserves.

maybe, the pressure point under bare mast is so far forward that this ship in strong wind cannot turn against the wind even under engine.

what percentage of the total sail area, are the bare mast, boom and furled headsails

Interesting, would they have enough nearby surface sensors or satellite weather imagery to duplicate the wind down burst?

This seems plausible, wonder if it's something that could be computer modeled if good data is available.

It has some decent mains given its weight, is it a traditional shaft arrangement or some kind of large folding prop? Says fixed shaft on generic internet searches, on these bigger sail boats is it common to not have a low drag style prop?

On the anecdotal side, a local old timer had a new boat built about 10 years ago. He went away from the trend of large free standing masts towards a much lower drag a frame style. His rationale was that on his last boat the big mast pushed him around more than be liked when they fished the mainland when the big gusts come down the back of the cliffs.

Wish I had the computer capacity to test that, seems like a possible explanation for how it got in a bad way.

"the pressure point under bare mast is so far forward that this ship in strong wind cannot turn against the wind even under engine"

    ---

    Exactly

    Bayesian 2024

    are several things

    1) the typical yacht that is not calm at anchor, because it is trapped between the force of the wind on the rig and the force of the water on the rudder. The funny thing about the case of the 5 million IMOCA capsizing on the coast of Galicia is that it had everything to anchor in the sea with a 5 euro bag of debris: the mast centered and the rudders out of the water

    2) the devil's invention of furled headsails

    3) the difference between static stability and a rollover that is dynamic

    4) the lack of interest in calculating the force of the wind on the rigging and the heeled hull. Time and time again I see calculations that assume that the hull disappears or has no hull: a mental world where there are only sails, no cables, no antennas, no mast, no furled sails and no heeled hull

    5) It was simply a motorboat, a motorboat with a gigantic mast on top of

but let's maintain a respectful silence so as not to scratch the mental bubble of the normies who believe they live in a rational world

It's exactly the same as the discussions about the creator of this planet of apes

Some happily say that God does not exist and thus get rid of the problem and the most servile with the power of reality say that the creator is wise, prudent and has good intentions, when we all know that it is brute and blind force, pure whim and an enthusiastic fan of beetles, we have to recognize that he did put care, time and passionate dedication into his design, into the design of the beetles.
