Wraping exhaust hose?

What is the deal with wraping the ruber exhaust hose with that shiny aluminum leaded foam stuff?Does it make it notisably quieter?Has any one herd a before and after?Does any one think it aint worth the efort?I have replaced exhaust hose before and threw the stuff away with out a complaint.And I have to look at a leaking exhaust soon and i would like some ammo.Thank you all.
