Tally Ho was left behind in Brookings Oregon after the current owner, Manuel Lopez, died. After a few years the Albert Strange Foundation took over the responsibility from Manuel's wife. The boat was moved to another part of the harbour terrain and one of the Oregon based members of the Foundation made a strong cradle and a shrinkfoil cover. In the summer of 2017 Tally Ho has been bought for $1.-- by Leo Sampson Goolden, young shipwright from Bristol UK. The yacht is moved on a trailer to Sequim (WA). Lots of information on the site of the Foundation www.albertstrange.org/tallyho/
and the site of Leo Goolden Sampson Boat Co. http://sampsonboat.co.uk
Apparently the years on the hard were not very good for Tally Ho's condition. It seems to me that this courageous young man from England needs all the support for this endeavour! Check out his site and see how you can help.
It might be a good idea to join his Youtube channel. He makes nice movieclips of the progress.

It seems to me that Leo took the right decision to make extensive footage of his work on Tally Ho and post this on his YouTube channel. The films he makes are a joy to watch and give insight in how to handle a project like this. Actually, I like this more than most of Discovery Channel programs. Obviously a lot of people like this too and his YouTube channel has now more than 12.000 subscribers. In October around 11.500 people subscribed. This kind of an audience could give him a monthly income of roughly $2.000 provided by YouTube. The more subscribers and views the more income, simple as that. I dare to say that one beautiful ship will be saved for the future. I am far away in the north of the Netherlands but my fingers are itching….

Marten, Thanks for the update. What a courageous young man. He's clearly highly capable, energetic and determined - and the video blog is excellent.

The incredible saga continues - this young fellow has got a lot on his plate, but seems to be doing a really good job. You have to admire his grit.

You surely have. And his thoughtfulness, care, confidence and ability to get on with it make him a rare leader to my mind - no cockiness or arrogance.

My lad has just turned 18 and seems quite keen on volunteering once he's got his exams out of the way. I hope he gets his act together and does it - I can't think of many better ways to spend a gap year.

Yes, nice to hear, but I'm afraid it's about a shark they're gonna waste, the whoop Tally Ho is when the shark is spotted*, I think . . . (below an auto translate)

( P.S. - * - Note in the 2nd video at 0:59 - 1:04 the "search in the distance lookout" and the "pointing (Tally Ho)" gestures. )

    あのとき僕は ああだった

    闇に溶けてゆく 海へ 海へ
    まぶしい陽に昇る 空へ 空へ

    わいタリホー さめタリホー
    氷もほっときゃ 流れるぜ

Is that a seagull or a wing?
Is it a long levee as it is
    Shape changes as it is
At that time I was ah.

To the sea which melts in the darkness
To the sky rising to the dazzling sun

Waste Tally Ho shark Tally Ho
    The ice will flow softly

A clock to teach in real time
A thermometer to measure the feelings
I will not lose memory of tears
Is it drifting on the equator?

To the sea which melts in the darkness
To the sky rising to the dazzling sun

Waste Tally Ho shark Tally Ho
    The ice will flow softly

Think this thread would be a nice place to remember and honor Tally Ho's previous savior Manuel Lopez of Brookings OR US, who worked on her from 2008 till he passed away in 2010. Manuel did this work together with his wife Judy May-Lopez, and they were assisted by volunteers, which all ended when Manuel died . . .

‘‘ Manny Lopez, right, and volunteers install a bow stem on the Tally Ho in 2008 as part of his refurbishing project. ’’

‘‘ Judy May-Lopez, who often joined her husband on the project, seals planks on the deck. ’’

‘‘ Brookings resident Manny Lopez spent nearly two years trying to refurbish the Tally Ho before he died in 2010. ’’

‘‘ The Tally Ho, built in 1909, sits in dry dock at the Port of Brookings Harbor in 2008. It is owned by a nonprofit group that hopes to restore it to his former glory. ’’
