I want to find Catamaran designer

I have an idea but need to find a designer, maybe a student who is somewhat advanced, to help me design in autocad, for cnc milling of a plug, a fast hulled catamaran. Is this there a better place to post such a request?

 

I know AutoDesk - AutoCad, I'm a Project Engineer in the Oil and Gas Industry and I have some resources available for some structural designing using different programs other than just AutoCad. What have you got in mind?

Try Morelli and Melvin. They will do as little as you ask them, and they of course know what they are talking about if you want some advice. They work well with people who have almost complete or very complete ideas of what they want, as well as people who need M&M to design the whole thing.

Power or sail?

 

I'm sorry I should have been a little more descriptive.

It will be a single person catamaran of roughly 16', maybe a tad longer. basically catamaran canoe/kayak.

I have the FRP experience and ability to build state of the art mold and the craft itself.

 

You're looking for a catamaran that you can paddle -- no engine or sails -- is this correct?

 

it will have mechanical propulsion. I was just refering mostly what it might be like in size, freeboard etc.. I'd rather not go into detail here.

 

What kind of mechanical propulsion? Pedal power? Inboard engine? Outboard engine? Hobie Mirage drive? Hand-cranked paddle wheel?

Well, you said "about 16 feet" so you already know how long it will be. But hull depth, profile, cross sections, displacement, freeboard, etc. all require more details ...

I cannot imagine how you will get any useful info without the details, but if it's a secret new product I guess you have a good reason to keep the details secret!

 

What do you charge for something like that?

 

Our charge out rate is relatively low, we usually only provide a contract price for the final design/cnc cut files once the preliminary drawings are complete. Any significant changes after the 3d model stage can be relatively costly, so its important for the client to be 100% happy with preliminary design before proceeding with the 3d model.
