Marine Fog Horns

What are you guys using for Fog Horns?

Anyone have an automatic Horn machine that will trigger your horn with all the Horn patterans required in the Regs Rules of the Road.


A Cha-Cha Horn that plays La Curaracha is nce but the Coast Guard may not like it

 

In the western portions of the Gulf of Mexico and the upper portions of the Gulf of California, that tune is perfectly acceptable.

Its Raining so I only have half my Fog Horn installation done.

It Freezing Rain actually..

I Bolted this Stainless 117 Db Dual Horn on my hardtop and need to run the wires to a switch.

Here is a Question.

Would it be better to use a pushbutton switch on the dashboard or maybe find a Pull Chain Switch that I can mount on the bottom of the roof with a Brass Chain and big Handle like the old style Tug Boats had. Halfway between the Drivers and Passengers helm seats.








Also have a AhooooGah! Horn that Im thinking of adding just for kicks. DIVE,DIVE,DIVE!

My Icom VHF radio has a fog horn function that uses the hailer speaker. It is programmable for the correct patterns. I can't imagine what a hassle it would have been if we had to make the signals manually.

There's gotta be a CD out there that one could throw in the stereo with a couple of waterproof speakers on deck.

 

Maybe someone can record theirs in mp3 and post it here....lol... I always thought foghorns and bells are a little silly. There is never any fog here...

 

I like the MP3 idea.

It would be a piece of cake to make that work using a Laptop computer if you had it running all the time to use for Chart Plotting & Such.

However

How do we get the correct file to play on a marine stero system when needed?

Would someone like to work with me to develop this as a new product?

Ha hA, The problem is you most need the fog horn when your boat is lost in the fog, adrift with no power or in a dire emergency. Murphy will at this point come in, you won't find the file or your computer won't boot, or you will lose power... then we are on deck with the bell hoping that freighter coming right at us at plank speed will see us and not kill us, fog horn, bell and all... ha ha

Ive got two..Ahhoooga !! Fog horns on board. The "Junior" for harbour work and a " Politico " mounted on the foredeck , for offshore work and when Ive got to get the message thru

When I was stationed in San francisco we installed a set od dual supe typhoon horns on mile rock light. You don't want to be anywhere close when they blow. (both for the obvious reason and because you won't hear anyhting else for a while)
