First time i've posted here and I'm hoping that someone can provide assistance.

Admittedly it's not a boat design issue it's very near to the type of things you guys work with.

I am looking for information on the design of composite masts. I have been given a design spec by a client of a 6m long tapered GRP rod 100mm dia at one end and 30mm dia at the other end, the tube is 5mm in diameter and formed from filament wound GRP. The rod must resist a wind load of 65m/s (equates to a force of 1.6kN distributed evenly along the length).

I need assistance in determining the best winding angle for flexure. I am also stuck on modelling the wind load variations non-linearly when the rod flexes.

    Cheers

    Richard
