Propeller Post Graving Piece

    I'm reviewing my Atkins Magic Minnow plans and they mention adding a graving piece to cover the vertical seam between the propeller post and keel/shaft log. This seems to me that it would just add two new vertical seams. Does anyone have a picture of this sort of thing?

    Actually, I bet it is to lock the post (vertical grain) to the keel (horizontal grain). If the post just butted the keel, the flaying surface would just be held by the drifts as it would be too thin on a boat that size to blind mortice.

    If you are building a wooden boat, have you checked out the Wooden Boat Fourm. Lots of knowledgeable people there who have delt with things like this.
