Not the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Guillermo. A rather better known bridge, in fact. And wind wasn't a problem on the day in question.

Golden Gate, Yes! Bravo! But not an earthquake. The ten foot deflection visible was caused by a rather more unusual event...

    bang on-well done murdomac.

The bridge was closed to traffic for a day, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its opening. The anticipated crowd was 50 000. On the day, a staggering 800 000 people walked onto the bridge, exceeding the design load, but thankfully not the considerable safety margin. Some sources consider that without the engineering works over the years, to strengthen, and more recently lighten the bridge, failure could have been a real possibility. The huge loading caused a deflection of some 10 feet in the road deck, which is what we see in the first picture.

Seeing as we are on bridges, try this remote one. I have driven over it and I have sailed through the narrows, but not since the bridge was installed.

Murdomack, you might want to delete that pic, rename it something more ambiguous and re attach!
