Lighthouse is from 1850 (rebuilt in 1879 and again in 1913). Abandoned. Approx. 22 m (72 ft) round masonry.

Islet is not so uninhabited now. At least someone is probably "living" there to take care of the small touristic installations.

    Another wreck there...

The island was originally well-vegetated but was extensively mined for phosphate in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and overgrazed by livestock since the 1800s. As a consequence the island has been devoid of all trees and bushes for more than 100 years. It has no protected status. However, feral goats and cats have been eliminated which opens up the way for ecological recovery. Now the greatest threat is probably from disturbance from uncontrolled recreational access to island from scuba and snorkeling visitors and other day visitors (600+ visitors per week 2006).

    Bird species:
Least Tern (Sterna antillarum) - breeding
Bare-eyed Pigeon (Patagioenas corensis) - resident
House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) - invasive

    Cheers.

This wreck btw. has lead to a very hefty dispute.

because the lighthouse was still shown as active on some charts when the boat stranded.

    Cheers

Well, I commenced searching the Caribbean Hall of Fame for baseball players and found none born in an small islet. As the Hall is related to the west islands, I then searched GE along the continent coast, beginning by Venezuela and....Bingo!

It was a pretty hard teaser to solve, as even counting with a lot of luck it took me almost two early morning hours to find the place (I do not sleep well :( ). I congratulate Angel because of the quality and difficulty of his teasers (and thank Richard for the Caribbean hint). :)

I would like to pass my turn to someone I know is anxiously waiting for a opportunity. Stu.....?

    Merry Christmas everybody! :)

    Welcome Guillermo!
I had it immediately, due to the lighthouse (and of course I´ve been there).

Yes Mark it was shown active on updated charts (but thats about 12 - 15 years ago).

It is boat related. Jesus told the fishermen to cast their net to other side of boat where fish were plentiful, and did he not walk on water from a boat?
