Where is this?

It is on the Canary Island at the south end opposite of the town of La Oliva, south of Pajara. Is the name of the island Fuerteventura?

 

Bougainvillea, of course. Mexico city is covered with them.

You're sure those are Germans on the beach?...there are a large number of red seats in rows, non have towels on them!!

 

You live in the fifties John. Today there are "reserved" signs on them.

the movie was known worldwide as "African Queen" even the French did not translate that (pretty uncommon).
Yes it is Fuerteventura, the island of goats! The name is choosen right, btw. just have a walk at the beaches, you´ll notice why.............

I know I haven't won, but here's a good nautical 'where in the world' that I witnessed last week.

So 'where in the world' is it that a HIAB equipped lorry could turn up, remove all the inflatable life rafts from a scheduled car ferry and then see it sail then without them on an open sea crossing full of passengers, cars and freight.

 

. . or even put a rope to close off the gap in the rails!

 

I don't know where to begin but I studied the tourist's jeans in the second pic and can't quite make out the brand.

All close enough: It was Greece and the Kos to Kalymnos ferry.

They might have a slightly cavalier attitude to SOLAS, but they're lovely people all the same.

I recall being on the ferry from Crete to Mykonos. It was blowing a F8 nice and lumpy. The water from the swimming pool, on the upper deck was overflowing and making those nearby wet! I went for a stroll around the boat, went inside the main superstructure, via only two very small doors, er how are some 1000+ people going to escape quickly through these 2 small doors??..only to see that the same doors on the port side, chained up, locked!!!!....shocking.

The ferry was the size of those that ply the English Channel from Dover to Calais

 

I assume the vessel has passed a saftey inspection?

 

Yup, just like all those other Greek registered vessel that fell foul!
