No hatred, not interested in that old story, just enjoy the pursuit of the challenge of working out where it is...

Lots of clues, Just not looking in the right place, or missing a significant one.... JUST BY LOOKING AT THE PHOTO - - - Left entrance is a rocky cliff, right is rolling hills, well covered with trees, and local lawns & distant grassland is fairly good (reliable and regular rain) the house roof has a header water tank and no powerlines to be seen so maybe power distribution is not for everyone... A small marina and several largish boats anchored - well protected and not over populated "tourist spot"... Spaced out homes in the distance could hide a major city/town... Railway track on the R foreground across the water, single track so may be special purpose like to a wharf (coal etc?) long spit indicates sheltered harbour and not exposed to severe regular storms, but with a fairly extensive agricultural plain inland. palm trees look like cocos plumosum which will tolerate cool temperate climate as will "norfolk Island" style pine tree (it seems too feathery to be a Bunya pine)... The dwellings do not look like the French or Mediterranean style, however the tiled roofs and the "small commercial wharf on the sand spit have me curious... There is a significant road/haul-track? something, winding down the distant hills to the extreme left...

    GIVEN by RHP
It is southern hemisphere and NOT an island so of Australia, Africa, South America, Not likely to be WA or NT or tropical Qld, nor south of NSW border/Victoria... Not likely to be NW coast of S America or much south of Brazil, nor much of W coast of Africa, so fire up GoogleEarth and look for a match... Who said no clues it started off as the whole world....

Is it a road up in the left edge of the picture?
I see we are close to the ocean (horizon), and we have a meter or two tide?

Reminds me a lot of the notorious "heads" - the entrance to the Knysna lagoon on the east coast of South Africa;) The angle its taken from a bit awkward to say for sure

Hurrah !! thank goodness Wynand chipped in before the handbags started flying!

I never said it wasnt South Africa, I said it wasnt Brazil! I passed through Knysna whilst driving from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town 18 months ago whilst on holiday with my family, had a wonderful time.

I said 'it shouldnt be so hard' knowing when the Sarf If-riacan boys took a look they'd spot it straight off. Wynand, we drove round to the heads and climbed down onto the little beach there for a picnic, I bet that enterance can be a handful in a blow.

Your turn but you have to make it REAL easy for these guys, see if you can add a town sign or something ! :D

PS its teh west coast not the east coast of SAf.

RHP, I sailed a couple of times through the "heads".

Hope you took the scenic route via Kommetjie over the Chapmans Peak pass to Houtbay then Cape Town. Possibly the most spectacular drive in the world, period. Glad you had a marvelous time here.

See what I can dig up...

Ps: the lagoon exits through the "heads" into the Indian ocean making it east - The Atlantic is on the African west coast;)

Wynand, we certainly did drive Chapmans Peak/Hout Bay and I was going to use a pic of Houts Bay from across the way but thought it too easy

Will roll out Google Earth when I get home to check on the Indian/Atlantic ocean question......

    Have a good one.

Is a condition that you have to have visited the place or can you just post a pic of somewhere off the net?

We once said it should be a place we personally have visited. And it should be coastline or boat, ship related. But who are we to make "laws"? This is a Forum not a court.
