I have a customer who requires 2 sets of winches for his Duncanson 29. He purchased the boat as a project and it no longer has any of the existing hardware. He has unsure what size winches he needs.

I was wondering if anyone here is familar with this type of boat and would know what size winches are usually found onboard? A similar boat is the Compass 29.

Otherwise if anyone has the sail specs (and thus the sail sizes) I can also use that as an indication.

    Thank you for your help.

The Dunc 29 was an extended and slightly reworked Compass 28 from an era when the two firms had some sort of partnership. I think the standard D29 rig is the same as the C28 rig.

The C29 is a significantly beamier boat so may have had larger winches and a bigger rig. I spoke with Don Lees and Gunter H about this years ago and my notes are buried somewhere, but I can't recall rig dimensions.

    Thank you for your reply.

In my search for information I came across an article about these boats written quite a few years ago. The writer had also spoken to Don Lees and Gunter H for that article. Me thinks that you and that writer are the same ;)

If that it is the case we met at the Sydney Sailboat Expo last April (and about 25 years ago when I was looking to buy my first boat).

    Cheers

Guilty as charged, and I can remember meeting you but it can't have been at the SSE. I must remember to look at your stuff when I need some new kit.

Anytime. Do you still have an office in Pittwater?

I occasionally go to Whitworths Mona vale so can also drop into your office to show a few blocks, etc, for reference. The prices are mostly very competitive compared to big brands.

PM sent - Master sailing hardware is also available through the Bombora Marine retail outlet on Ebay or by direct email order through our website (click on our signature).

Apologies I haven't provided an Ebay store link as I am not sure if it is allowed on the forum.

    Cheers
