    what class of ocean going US navel vessel was it used on?

    yes to altimeter

    but no to seaplane

    an airplane is not considered a vessel

    airplanes aren't ocean going

    they are planes that have water landing capabilities in calm seas

    rough weather they would fare as well as any other plane trying to land on the water

    since the advent of the helicopter they have become irrelevant

    2. Aircraft carrier

    3. To have a reference height for the flight deck which allows for changes in atmospheric pressure which could be radioed to incoming aircraft.

    if you know your hight, setting the hight it will give you the pressure altitude

    a hint, it would be the last place you'd think

    I think it has to do with submarines, and that's why you didn't answer to my #3 answer in post #65.
