Wait a bit on tat tax thing, Troy. I personally guarantee you will soon change your tune. I know it. You, somewhere in your heart, know it, too.

why is it that in the most prosperous times in the past the taxes were higher?

low taxes don't guarantee prosperity, look at ireland

I don't mind paying for goods received or services rendered.

I think universal health care is a laudable goal, and I'll cough up my share if that's what it takes. At the rate my health insurance costs have been skyrocketing for years now, I'll be priced out of the private market pretty soon anyway....

Socialism crushes both the will and the spirit of the people and leaves them listless and with no ability to thrive. It is the blue crab complex set into motion.

rightism turns people into mindless automatons currying favor with the rich

eschews science and education unless it's out of an approved religious text

but give them time, they have only been evolving for 6000 years, it will take them time to catch up with those with millions of years of evolution and evolutionary thought

does that mean they are closer to being monkeys than the rest of us?

So the millions of people in Europe and Scandinavia are listless, and have no ability to thrive?

    try this hoy

"you're so full of ^&*t your eyes are brown"

that's one problem with the righties, they lack originality but in their natural habitat that is a survival plus

righties have been known to turn on and devour those that hesitate to follow the party line

This nonsense about 'left' and 'right' is mostly that, anyway. Nonsense, I mean.

It's an artificial division, because most normal people (as opposed to fanatics) have some attitudes and beliefs commonly labeled leftist, and some that are labeled right-wing -- and which gets called what often depends on who's doing the labeling.

I don't know why you claim to be worried about the polarization of this country, Hoyt. You're enthusiastically trying to increase it....

Its true that the European Social Democracies encourage people not to work. Thirty Five hour work week....long holidays, early retirement, difficult employment laws.... But remember this is what the people..the voters want. It is not a reason to stereo type " social" policies , only an opportunity to study the societies short falls and avoid them.

When you talk raising taxes...Whoa !! waite until you see whats on the horizon. Your budget is so far out of whack, with not enough revenue coming in to cover whats going out, that responsible leaders will have no choice....Wall Street will punish you.
When you elect me SUPREME SOCIALST DICTATOR FOR LIFE... I will immediately impose a vat ,tax, on consumption and a whopper tax on energy. This will be the only way to raise revenue without getting into the pockets of business.

Best build an economical to operate boat !!! ...I recently paid 1.55 euro per litre for diesel in Greece. thats about 7.5 dollars per gallon. This is the future and not a bad way to combat pollution , energy dependency and balance the budget.
